MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS: HOW INSTITUTIONS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The final two sessions of the three-part Webinar Series with The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP) were held on August 3 and September 6, with attendees from North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Dr. Michele Nealon, TCSPP President, led both sessions, with the first designated UK Student Support Champion, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) Vice Chancellor, Dr. Edward Peck joining her in session 3.

With in-person and virtual attendees from Mexico, United States, Austria, Costa Rica, Colombia, Spain, France, Chile, United Kingdom, Georgia and Bangladesh, the 2022 IAUP Regional Meeting “Recovery and Transformation: New Challenges for Leaders of Higher Education”, was held successfully at Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB) in Colombia, from September 28-30, 2022. The program included more than 20 international speakers in six panels and a conference, networking opportunities, and various cultural experiences.

CAUCASUS UNIVERSITY AWARDS HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE TO IAUP PRESIDENT

On July 30, 2022, the Caucasus University of Tbilisi, Georgia, awarded an Honorary Doctorate to IAUP President, Dr. Fernando León García, for his distinguished contribution to internationalization in higher education. León-García received the recognition from Dr. Kakha Shengelia, Caucasus University President and IAUP Chairman of the Board, during the institution’s graduation ceremony.

IAUP DELIVERS OPENING SPEECH AT SILK ROAD EDUCATION COOPERATION AND EXCHANGE FORUM

On behalf of the IAUP, President Dr. Fernando León-García discussed “Promoting Education Cooperation and Exchanges Across Borders and Across the Belt and Road Countries for a Better Common Future, and for a Solidarity Based Higher Education”, in the Silk Road Education Cooperation and Exchange Forum held on August 15, 2022, in Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xian.

2022 IAUP INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MODEL COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

On August 18, 2022, the Awards Ceremony for the 2022 IAUP International Business Model Competition took place virtually, with participants from around the world. First and third place went to Hunan University, and second place went to SIAS University, both in China.

IAUP PRESIDENT IS SPEAKER AT THE IAU 16TH GENERAL CONFERENCE 2022

Together with colleagues from Lithuania, Denmark, and Tunisia, IAUP President Fernando León-García took part in the Plenary III: Teaching and Learning for Tomorrow’s World, at the International Association of Universities (IAU) 16th General Conference 2022, held in Dublin, Ireland, from October 25-28.

On September 21, 2022, IAUP and CETYS University held the International Day of Peace Virtual Panel, “Building Peace: The Role of Higher Education Institutions”, with experts from around the world discussing this important topic, and attendees from six continents.

IAUP AT HACU 36TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

As part of the 36th Annual Conference of The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), “Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Rebuilding a More Resilient and Inclusive America,” held on October 8-10 in San Diego, IAUP President Dr. Fernando León García moderated an international plenary titled “Resilience, Recovery, and Retooling in Post-Pandemic Higher Education: Lessons Learned and Applied in Diverse International Settings”. 

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HOLDS 4TH MEETING OF 2021-2024

On Thursday September 29, 2022, under a hybrid format at Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB) in Colombia, beginning at 5:30 am PDT and covering time zones extending from the Americas to Asia with over thirty participants from seventeen countries, the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) Executive Committee (EC) held its fourth meeting for the 2021-2024 period.

On Oct. 20, 2022, Dr. Fernando León-García, IAUP President, served as Speaker in the XI International Scientific Conference on Social Innovations SOCIN’22, held in Lithuania, covering the topic “Leadership Challenges in Higher Education: Moving from the Pandemic to the Post Pandemic Era”.

IAUP SECRETARY-GENERAL AT THE IV ACADEMIC SUMMIT IN ROMANIA

IAUP Secretary General, Fernando Galván, participated in the closing panel of the IV Academic Summit organized by the Permanente Academic Forum on Latin America, Caribbean and the European Union (FAP ALC-UE), held in Bucharest, Romania, November 10-12, 2022, which addressed issues on the creation of a common higher education space between Latin America-Caribbean and Europe.

IAUP PRESIDENT IS KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT 15TH AUAP GENERAL CONFERENCE 2022

AUP President Dr. Fernando Leon Garcia served as Keynote Speaker, as well as offering closing remarks, at the 15th AUAP General Conference 2022 held on November 14–16, 2022 at IAUP member institution Daffodil International University in Bangladesh.

On Friday, November 18, the IAUP and United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) held a Virtual Panel titled “United Nations Academic Impact: 12 Years and Beyond”, with close to 100 participants from around the world.

SDGS BUSINESS GAME “MISSION 2030” BY ALMAU

On 20 October 2022, IAUP member institution, Almaty Management University (AlmaU) hosted the Mission 2030 Business Game for students. The event was held on the theme of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Business Game was opened by the Rector of AlmaU – Gulnara Kurenkeyeva.

DR. SABUR KHAN SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT OF AUAP

On November 19, 2022, Dr. Sabur Khan, Founder of Daffodil International University and Daffodil Group of Companies, and active member of the IAUP, became the first Bangladeshi to be named President of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), for the period of 2023-2024.

THE POST-PANDEMIC UNIVERSITY: THE VIEW FROM THE TOP

On the Horizon: The International Journal of Futures is publishing a special issue entitled “The Post-pandemic University: the View from the Top.” Edited by David Atkinson, President Emeritus, MacEwan University, and growing out of the 2021 IAUP Triennial Conference held virtually from Mexico City, it contains eleven essays, some of these essays are provided by IAUP members and have their origin at the IAUP conference. 

MEF UNIVERSITY: KEEPING EDUCATION IN LINE WITH CHANGING LEARNING PARADIGMS IN THE DIGITAL AGE

This year IAUP Member MEF University which opened in 2014 as the world’s first and only fully flipped university, saw further development to its latest innovations: an institutional agreement with Coursera with two main aims: 1) to become the main MOOC provider used in Personalized Learning Experience; 2) to become a content provider for some departmental courses. 

IAUP-MEMBERS CONCLUDE COOPERATION AGREEMENT

The renowned and triple accredited Kedge Business School with locations in Marseille, Bordeaux and Paris, and the FH OÖ Business School in Steyr have concluded a multi-dimensional cooperation agreement. Contact between the institutions dates back to recent IAUP meetings in Georgia.

CETYS INAUGURATES THE CEVIT WINE INSTITUTE

The CEVIT Wine Institute at IAUP Member CETYS University in Mexico was recently inaugurated. The $4 million facility, only one of its kind in the country, is located at the Ensenada Campus in northern Baja California, a region recognized worldwide for its vineyards and winemaking activity. 

IAUP TREASURER ELECTED PRESIDENT FOR WORLD FEDERATION OF UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATIONS

On November 1st, Geneva time, Dr. Shawn Chen, Treasurer and President-Elect of IAUP, was elected as the President for World Federation of United Nations Associations. WFUNA is a global nonprofit organization representing and coordinating a membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations (UNAs) and their thousands of constituents.
