FEATURED ARTIST: Alana Garrigues
Meet June featured artist - Alana Garrigues.
Alana Garrigues is an intuitive artist and poet based out of Holden, Massachusetts. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, her work explores nature and the human experience. She is working in two primary series at this time: “Mother Tree Holds the Stories” and “Small Devotions of Pigment and Water.” Themes in Alana’s art include memory, conservation, freedom and movement, largely explored in trees, lines, and watery media such as watercolor and acrylic ink. She has a deep curiosity and enjoys meandering conversations about artistic expression, intersectional justice, and the devoted practice of creativity.
Recently Alana gave a talk at the "Divine Beacons" show in Astoria, Oregon to the topic of
"What stories do the trees speak?" There she spoke of rings, stories, her process, and of moving from creating on reclaimed wood to creating on cotton paper. She also spoke on the differences between New England spring and spring in the Pacific Northwest. Following the talk, the audience was invited to quietly stand before the work in the exhibit, breathe, and invite memories of beloved trees and then go home and plant a tree.
Alana currently has work in the ArtsWorcester Biennial through July 9. Her mixed media piece, Precedented II, was awarded 4th place.
Alana has shown her work all over New England and Oregon. She is open to commissions, collaborations and invitations to curated shows.
