As a daughter of Atlanta, Georgia, the place dubbed “The City Too Busy To Hate,” I grew up with the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a towering backdrop to my experience as a middle-class African American millennial raised in the South.

My family would observe every MLK Holiday by tuning in to the annual MLK Commemoration Service at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. We’d be delighted to hear a hometown artist or local pastor play a part in the inspirational service that always felt like the opening ceremony of the new year to help us remember how much this nation has overcome and how much we have yet to overcome.
Happy New Year! It is my pleasure to be writing to you as the new chair of the Accreditation Commission. As I begin my term, I want to offer my thanks and appreciation to Randy Hall, the former chair of the Accreditation Commission, for his work on Accreditation for the last 13 years, and I also want to acknowledge the great work of the Accreditation Commissioners, without whom none of what we do would be possible. Thank you to everyone!

There is a lot going on in the world of Accreditation, and I hope that this article will serve to highlight a few things for you related to the implementation of changes as a result of our USDE review.
Make plans now to join ACPE as we come together in New Orleans, the South’s Most Interesting City, for what promises to be a unique social and educational conference celebrating our values, sharing our voices, and growing our vision together. Building upon the work we have been doing to become an anti-racist organization that is actively engaging and addressing biases, this conference will begin our transition from knowledge building to application and integration of what we have been learning. Throughout the week, there will be many opportunities to reconnect and engage with colleagues, experience some of the many cultures of ACPE and our host city, and to take time to heal, recharge, and have some fun together!
