Courage and Hope Mural
WWS has been proud to display the Courage and Hope mural created last year by our current 10th grade class. It was originally created and displayed as a part of our 2020 Michaelmas celebration. This stunning work of art has moved and inspired our community and others who pass by our campus. However, it was not built to withstand an extended time out of doors - you may have noticed that it is coming apart a bit at the seams.

In discussion with the 10th grade, it was decided that the mural should be moved indoors and become a fixture in the high school lounge.

Read more about the mural creation in the Bulletin from October 14, 2020.
Affinity Groups Forming
In an effort to support the experiences and needs of marginalized and underrepresented voices, the LC4DESJ and the PLG wish to share the launch of Affinity Groups at WWS as designated spaces of community and self-care.

We are beginning with two Affinity Groups: one for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC) and one for those who identify as LGBTQ. Each group will be facilitated by a group email list on the Groups.io platform.

We are seeking a group administrator for the LGBTQ list; please contact LC4DESJ@washingtonwaldorf.org if you are interested.

A form will be posted soon in ParentSquare and we invite those who self-identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ to respond if interested in joining either or both groups.

Preparing snack bags is a great family activity! Bags cost approx. $2.30 each. We recommend you sign-up for bags in quantities of 8 based on standard package amounts. The bags will be delivered to So Others Might Eat (SOME) for distribution.

We are 169 bags shy of our goal of 800 snack bags (we provided 800 last year)! If 10 more families sign up to provide 16 bags, we will be on the verge of our goal.

Bag drop-off is this Thursday and Friday (Nov 18 and 19) at school. Bags can be brought to school at drop off on Thursday and drop off and pick up on Friday. There will be a bin and designated area at the front of school. Additionally, Maria Monteverde-Jackson will be in the back parking lot with her white Toyota Highlander hatch open.

Donate Items for Refugee Families
from Robin Leake (WWS Parent)

Homes Not Borders is looking for donations of gently used items to furnish homes for refugees.

Top Needs: small dressers, bedside tables and end tables, coffee tables, rugs of all sizes (up to 9’x 12″), table lamps with shades, floor lamps with shades, twin comforters, large cooking pots & pressure cookers, vacuums, televisions (with remote and plug & no bigger than 45″), blenders, food processors, small microwaves, pictures and artwork for walls (landscapes and flowers preferred) - there are definitely things we still have A LOT in stock like queen & full bedding, towels, dishes, mugs and pots and pans - so hold off on those.

Bring donations to our warehouse (3610 East Street) any day from 10-2pm. You can also schedule a pick up via our website but we are booked until January OR donate via our Amazon wishlist, especially as we need A LOT of new beds - and don't forget the mattress casings!

Also, if you are a landlord in Maryland and have affordable long-term rentals you could offer new refugee families, reach out to Homes Not Borders.
Brookmont House for Rent
from Kendra Canty (WWS alum parent)

Our house in Brookmont will be available to rent starting on December 1.

We moved into the neighborhood on Jody Grossman’s recommendation when our kids were at the Children’s Garden at WWS, and we have had such a magical experience here. I wanted to see if there might be any Waldorf families who are looking to move into this beloved community.
