From the Founder

It’s been an exciting month with all of the happenings at Dorcas Destiny International! Since you see a lot of our social media from Victory School and the Educational Enrichment Program, we thought it would be a good idea to hear more from them. Hopefully, you enjoy getting to know them!

And yes, we are still planning our February 2024. It’s amazing how the Lord assembles the team so that HIS priorities are accomplished on every trip! If you believe you’re “called” for our “Taking It To The Next Level” trip, it’s not too late (but soon it will be…)!

EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

(My experience as a facilitator)

My experience so far with Educational Enrichment has been great, as we have achieved some of our goals with the children. Seeing the children work to be the best or have the best instills a spirit of positive competition. There has been a tremendous change since we started the program and we keep aiming higher to help them grow even more as we continue with the program.

I was not sure of how best to implement this project, but over time, I grew more familiar and confident in the project with the assistance of my fellow team members. But most importantly, how the children received our assistance was yielding fruits, because they were more confident in themselves and were looking forward to experiencing or learning something new in addition to their fixed classroom tasks.

MARYJOY

The Educational Enrichment Program has not only been a great experience, but it has also been a mirror. A mirror through which we look into ourselves and into our society and see the cracks. This Program has been an attempt to fix those cracks and hope to create a picture large enough to inspire and rouse hope in the place of fear and action in the place of indifference. My name is MaryJoy Karanja, I am part of the Educational Enrichment Program (EEP) at Dorcas Destiny International.

BRENDA

I never imagined myself as a teacher before. We all have this idea of a certain path we hope to take, but as life goes on, we find ourselves in another that we are grateful to be on. Being a teacher in DDI is one of the greatest stories I would wish to tell. It has taught me patience, kindness, and endurance.

BERYL

I have taught grade three as well, and I can say most of them are naughty. It has been challenging for me working with this class because I spend most of the time trying to make sure they are paying attention to what I am teaching them. I’ve learned how to handle different kinds of children and gotten the confidence and courage to work with them. Educational Enrichment has helped and continues to help me open my mind and think large on ideas on how to deal with children, making them have fun as they learn.

We have a vision; a vision that includes providing access to tangible resources that will help improve the lives of children and women in Kenya, East Africa. We actively support two schools: Motivated By Love King’s Academy (Opoya village) and Victory School (Baba Dogo slum); we visit Smart Minds Academy (Dandora slum) on some trips.

Dorcas Destiny International visits two women’s prisons, taking hygiene supplies for them and their children, and spending time singing, providing encouragement, and sharing gifts. 

We are so happy you’re interested in getting involved with our work and helping achieve the Dorcas Destiny International vision. We truly appreciate your support; you are now a valuable part of our ministry/nonprofit organization and your help strengthens our ability to serve.

THE EDUCATION CROSSWALK PROGRAM

ENDS WITH A SONG!

Voice instructor Shanka Pettis finished a successful twelve-week virtual program that helped participants uncover the beauty in their voices. She coached participants on their vocals and how to be better vocalists by realizing their abilities to sing and become musicians. At the end of the program, each participant was required to record themselves singing the song 'King of Glory' by Todd Dulaney. Which is currently being produced by our amazing voice instructor, Mrs. Pettis, and will be available on our YouTube channel soon.
