Dear Stakeholders,

In an effort to keep current information in the hands of the community, we are delighted to share a revised layout proposal for the Louisiana International Terminal. Guided by community feedback, our engineering team worked hard to design a layout that keeps St. Bernard Highway along the river without compromising terminal operations.

Public input pointed out important community concerns about the layout we submitted with our federal permit application at the end of last year.

The most recent proposed layout also includes:

  • Investments in shore power, which has the potential to reduce air pollution from ships at berth by up to 98%.
  • More buffers to separate neighborhoods from the terminal.
  • An overpass for cars to avoid a rail crossing.
  • Space for a Parish-planned bike and pedestrian path along the levee.
  • A more detailed plan for on-site drainage.
  • Space for the Merrick Cemetery to expand.

The Louisiana International Terminal project is also serving as the catalyst to align public and private resources to make a long-imagined public roadway in Lower St. Bernard into a reality. The St. Bernard Transportation Corridor, which will connect Lower St. Bernard to the interstate system and serve the terminal and the public, has received a $50 million commitment in funding from the Louisiana Legislature and has been added to the Metropolitan Transportation Plan. Last week, the State released $2 million of those funds for the Regional Planning Commission to conduct a feasibility study on the corridor, which will begin shortly.

As we gather data and more public feedback, we will continue improving this layout. Port NOLA values your input, and we aim to design a project that protect your quality of life.

Port NOLA plans to continue to go above and beyond the federal requirements for public involvement throughout the permitting process. In the meantime, you can also submit comments to Port NOLA directly on our new website or via email: LouisianaInternationalTerminal.com.
