PTO Conversations; Safety & Public Confidence Report

Thank you to the PTO for hosting a Conversations on Monday. The report by Principal Walsh, Director of Security Kurt Bluder and SRO Kevin Berland showed a light on how serious Hinsdale Central and D86 take safety & security so that our students and staff can focus on the learning environment. Our strategic plan mission states "empowering students to pursue their ideal future by acquiring critical skills and knowledge to collaborate, create and connect with an ever-changing world". For a child to learn, they must first feel safe. It is the goal of this team and our staff to provide an environment that meets the basic needs of our students so that they can learn, grow, and lead. The report focused on Meeting the Needs,
What to Expect Regarding Communication, Security Personnel, Security Equipment, Safety Measures, Hinsdale Police Department Student Resource Officer.

Communication
For our communication protocol to be effective, we need our data to be accurate. Please make sure your phone number and email is up to date with the school.

Lanyards & school IDs
Additionally, please consider having a conversation with your child about school safety. In particular regarding the expectation that all students and staff must wear a D86 issued lanyard and their school ID. The building leadership team and the Red Devil staff are addressing this matter but it has been an uphill battle. The requirement of wearing the D86 lanyard and school ID is to take a simple step of assuring only Red Devils and authorized guests are on campus.

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Hey students, thinking about dressing up this Halloween at school? Please keep the following in mind when planning your costume:
  • Absolutely no fake or real weapon props
  • No full-face masks or full-face paint, as this conceals a student's identity
  • Costumes should not be offensive, overly violent, or discriminatory
  • All costumes must still adhere to the school dress code.
Thank you in advance for your assistance in ensuring a healthy and safe environment!

Young Community Changemakers (YC2): Become a Changemaker

Young Community Changemakers (YC2) is a leadership development program for current juniors and seniors designed to educate and empower local youth to become our community’s next generation of philanthropists — those who give their time, talent and treasure for the common good.

YC2 is sponsored by Community Memorial Foundation, https://cmfdn.org/, and designed around a shared vision that young people need opportunities to develop the skills to be future leaders and stewards of our community. Curricula encourages students to explore our local community and its social needs; learn about philanthropic theory; and engage in organizational evaluation and grant making. At the end of the program, students collectively award up to $30,000 of Foundation funding to local nonprofit organizations that further the mission and vision of Community Memorial Foundation.

Applications are due by Friday, November 23, 2022 at 5:00PM. Learn more and apply at http://cmfdn.org/yc2.
