Hero On and Off Duty

Officer Rafael Rodriguez is not only a Police Officer but is a Scout Leader to both Pack and Troop 911 in the Metropolitan District. Officer Rodriguez has gone beyond the call of duty to save someone from a car fire. For his outstanding act of bravery, he has been honored with the Medal of Valor by the LAPD. Thank you Officer Rodriguez for devoting your services to the community and also to the youth in Scouting.

Halloween Safety Tips

With Halloween nearly upon us. Keep in mind these safety tips while you go on your Trick or Treating adventures.

  • Accompany your young children in the neighborhood and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Teach your children about street safety and look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Only approach homes that have a porch light on.
  • Never enter a stranger's home or vehicle for any treats.
  • Stay on the sidewalks.
  • Never forget to have FUN!

Scout Video Request

Calling all Scouts of all ages! We need your help! We will be hosting an upcoming Gala and we would like to show case our Scouts in our opening ceremony. We would love for you to record your Scout in full uniform (Class A) reciting the pledge of allegiance, Scout Oath, Scout Law and an invocation. Please film the video on landscape and in good lighting. Make sure it is quiet in the background as well. We will then be taking the videos submitted and creating our opening ceremony. We can't wait to see the videos you create.

Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, November 12, 2022.

Eagle Project Success

Life Scout Avery Kachmarsky of Troop 355, completed his Eagle Scout project this October in the Angeles National Forest. This was an outstanding collaboration between intrepid Scouts and U.S. Forest Service staff and volunteers! The union of all of these thoughtful and talented people committed to preserving recreational spaces in the forest resulted in the trails and picnic area looking better than they have in over 20 years.

Law Merit Badge Day

Law Merit Badge Day is a unique experience that allows Scouts interested in legal careers to complete the requirements for Scouting's Law Merit Badge. It will provide Scouts with an understanding of criminal law, civil law, legal history, and the opportunity to participate in a mock trial sponsored by the Legal Eagles.

The Legal Eagles are a group of legal professionals who support the efforts of our council to provide young people with a better understanding of the law in their lives and as a career.

Do You Know a Worthy Scouting Alumnus?

The Greater Los Angeles Scouting Alumnus of the Year Committee is currently accepting applications for Council Alumnus of the Year! The Council Alumnus of the Year Award is different from other awards in Scouting as it does not simply recognize the individual for being a distinguished person or honor those giving time and energy to the BSA as a volunteer leader; Scouting already has awards that do that.

Completed applications are due by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Please email the application and any supporting documents to Paul McNulty.
