SUNDAY

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21

This Sunday, we'll continue Making Space for Generosity in our hearts, lives, time, and finances. Join us for worship in person or online at 9:00 or 11:15 am.

Architects from Merriman Holt Powell, the firm involved with our long-range master planning, will share some early ideas, answer questions, and acquire information from those in attendance in the Wesley Activity Center during the Sunday Morning Groups hour on Sunday, October 22.

STAY HEALTHY SUNDAY

RSV, Flu, COVID, Shingles, and Pneumonia vaccines will be available in the Welcome Center this Sunday, October 22 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. Vaccines are free with your insurance card. There are limited number of free vaccines available for the uninsured.

STEPHEN MINISTRY equips lay people to provide confidential, one-on-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing crisis or difficulty. Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of structured training before being commissioned. Confidentiality is of high priority so that care receivers do not have to worry that their problems will become public within or outside of the church. Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers can be identified by their blue name tags, and can answer any questions you might have about this ministry.

Are you interested in becoming a Stephen Minister? Join us for a one-hour informational meeting this Sunday, October 22 at 12:30 pm at the third floor youth chapel. Please contact Karen Fuchs prior to Sunday to let her know you will be attending.

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, Jesus gave them The Lord's Prayer. He likely taught it to his followers often, not just one time. He never intended the Lord’s Prayer to be a museum piece, framed and placed on a mantel or in a display case. It was Jesus teaching God’s people, through his disciples, how to pray.

But do we really understand and appreciate the meaning and power of its words, what we ask of God each time we pray it?

JW Women, you are invited to explore the meaning and power of the Lord’s Prayer in a new fall Bible study beginning next Wednesday, October 25.

LAY READER MINISTRY

As we continue to grow and strengthen our faith community, we are excited to share the development of the new Lay Reader Ministry within our church. Lay Readers will play a vital role in worship services, guiding us through affirmations, scripture readings, calls to worship, and other essential liturgical elements.

That this ministry will enhance our worship experience and provide an opportunity for members of our congregation to actively participate in worship life. Please reach out to Adrianne Adams-Diaz to place your name on the list for future training with the pastoral staff.

Let's ROCK AND ROLL...paint on some walls! Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Harris County seeks willing volunteers who want to give back to their community. All volunteers are welcome to help on our construction site, no matter the skill level. When you volunteer with Habitat, you are making a difference in the lives of our partner families throughout Northwest Harris County. Volunteering on a construction site is an excellent way to meet friends and learn new skills in a fun environment.

You are invited to change lives by painting walls in a house being prepared for a new family at the JW Work Day this Saturday October 21.

COMMUNITY FOOD DISTRIBUTION

The JW Reach team partners with The Houston Food Bank and Bridging for Tomorrow for our community food distribution. The Houston Food Bank Mobile Truck parks outside at John Wesley Church once a month at 8:00 am to help feed our community, and many volunteers are needed to make this a successful mission.

Click on your next opportunities to serve on Saturdays, October 28 and November 25.

The holiday season has begun. This might be the first holiday after your loved one’s death, or maybe it’s the second, third or beyond. In the coming days, you are going to be facing some tough emotions, and due to the nature of Thanksgiving and Christmas - with its focus on family, yearly traditions, expectations, social events, and "cheer" - the emotions can blindside you. You can lessen the emotional impact by knowing what to expect and being prepared. Grief Share - Surviving the Holidays is here to help. Please join us for one 2-hour session on Monday, October 23, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

The Willing Friends Society is a fellowship of individuals for whom John Wesley Methodist Church is an important part of their lives and have included the Endowment Fund or JWMC in their wills or other estate plans. Its purpose is to recognize and thank those persons for their future gift today. If you have made such a gift and have not previously advised us, please contact Don Pine, Endowment Committee Chair at 713-254-2132 so that we can send you an invitation to the luncheon.
