Happiness Shines Through:

CAMTA has a busy day with seven surgeries planned! With four surgeries for adults and three for pediatric patients, it's crucial for the team to be well-prepared. It is a demanding but incredibly rewarding experience, seeing patients receive the care they need. The CAMTA members have been adapting, working hard and coming together to make all the surgeries possible. Each member plays a unique and crucial role in this collective effort.

Danny Jair Armas Travez: The Heartwarming Video

You may remember the inspiring story from yesterday about Danny Jair Armas Travez racing in a wheelchair alongside a fellow CAMTA patient. Today, we are sharing some additional photos.

Danny underwent a complex three-hour surgery. Among other things, CAMTA surgeons removed some bone in his twisted leg. When Danny awoke and saw that his leg was now straight, he thought he was dreaming.

Alexandra Velarde: Our Hospital Hero

Alexandra Velarde is the Chief OR Nurse at Padre Carollo Hospital, where CAMTA operates during its time in Quito. She has been outstanding in her role, and the CAMTA team deeply appreciates her dedication.

Alexandra's passion for caregiving began at the age of eight when her grandmother was diagnosed with leukemia. Witnessing the care her grandmother received inspired her to pursue a career in nursing.

During her nursing practicum at a military hospital, Alexandra discovered her love for the operating room and knew it was the perfect place for her.

Now, 26 years later, she has served as the Chief OR Nurse at seven hospitals, both public and private. She and CAMTA member Rayanne Hillier, CAMTA'S lead Adult OR Nurse, quickly bonded over a conversation, strengthening the connection between CAMTA and the hospital.
