2023 PA Route 6 Educational Workshop and Annual Meeting Recap
The 2023 PA Route 6 Educational Workshop and Annual Meeting & "Do 6 " Awards in Corry, PA, October 5-6, was a great success! Thank you to all the folks in Corry, PA, who truly laid out the red carpet for everyone who attended.

This year's theme was "Act, Adapt, and Attract." At Thursday's Educational Workshop, our guest speakers covered a variety of topics related to this theme, including historic preservation, adaptive reuse, co-working, entrepreneurship, active transportation, and much more!

At Friday's Annual Meeting at the Fork and Barrel Restaurant, we recognized Linda Devlin of the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau for her many years of service on the PA Route 6 Board of Directors. Devlin recently announced that she will be retiring in early 2024. We also elected three new members to our Board of Directors, Jean Ruhf from the Endless Mountains Visitors Bureau, Connor Vecellio from the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning Office, and Casey Ferry of the Warren County Visitors Bureau.

Representatives from four communities along Route 6 presented on their progress with the Community Heart & Soul Program: Tidioute, Youngsville, Carbondale, and Wyoming County. Congratulations to two additional communities along PA Route 6 that have been recently selected for this program, Port Allegany in McKean County and Mansfield in Tioga County!

The Alliance also provided updates on its accomplishments, including tourism promotion and marketing, bike tourism and the Bike Friendly Business Program, the PA Route 6 Artisan Trail, and PA Route 6 Façade Program.

Artisan Spotlight
Artisan Trail member, The Gathering Place, in Clarks Summit is a dynamic community center that celebrates creativity, education and the arts in a unique way that embraces the entire community.

The Gathering Place facilitates inclusive partnerships, creativity, education, programming, and the arts within the community in an environment filled with creative energy, a passion for lifelong learning, and a strengthened sense of belonging. The Gathering Place truly epitomizes regional cooperation in promotion of various art forms as well as inclusivity of artists and artisans within the Route 6 corridor. For these reasons, and many more, The Gathering Place received the Artisan of the Year Award.

PA Route 6 Alliance to Receive $267,000 from DCNR
Governor Shapiro (picture here), and Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Recreation recently announced a $52.2 million investment for more than 225 recreation and conservation projects across Pennsylvania that will create new recreational opportunities, conserve natural resources, and help revitalize local communities.

Among the recipients of this funding is Pennsylvania Route 6 Alliance, which will receive $267,000 to manage the heritage area and heritage area initiatives; facilitate the façade and signage improvement program in Lackawanna County and the Poconos region; continue to develop the bike tourism program; support tourism promotion and marketing campaign; provide technical assistance to PA Route 6 Heritage Communities; continue to promote the PA Route 6 Artisan Trail while organizing PA Route 6 “makers markets.”

Congratulations to everyone across the 11-county PA Route 6 Corridor that will also be receiving funding for projects.
