Reminder - Opt-In via PowerSchool to Receive Important Documents
This is a friendly reminder for our parents and guardians to opt-in to receive important documents from their child’s school via PowerSchool. As a security measure, PowerSchool requires parents/guardians to opt-in to receive these documents, which includes progress reports (available in middle school only) and report cards. We recognize that this is different from what many families may be used to, but this is the most streamlined and secure way to receive important documents from your child’s school. If you have not done so already, please follow these instructions to complete the sign-up process. Our district-wide teams will continue to work closely with families to provide support in accessing and using the PowerSchool system.

Updated Health Guidance from IDPH
This is a reminder for our families, students, and staff - please continue to stay home if you are feeling sick and monitor for 24 hours if you have any COVID-19 and/or flu symptoms. NEW! If symptoms do not resolve within 24 hours, students and staff must be tested for COVID-19, within 48 hours of the onset of their symptoms. According to new guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, students and staff must be symptom free and provide proof of a negative PCR test to the health clerk before returning to school (regardless of vaccination status).

As a reminder, if a student or staff member is out sick for three or more days, the District requires a note from their doctor with an alternative diagnosis and a negative, (not home kit), COVID-19 test for readmission to school/work. Please note if an individual tests positive for COVID-19, it is not necessary to get a doctor’s note. The school will send confirmation to the individual when they may return to school/work.

October is Bullying Prevention Month!
Did you know that October marks the start of Bullying Prevention month? In D65, we believe in restorative practices, repairing harm and building positive relationships while empowering our students, and holding them accountable for their actions. Our team has a variety of resources available on our website to address concerns around bullying. Additionally, the District has adopted the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program to clearly address bullying incidents and to help prevent further incidents from occurring. As a reminder, if you feel that a student in District 65 is being bullied or is bullying others, be sure to review the following steps to report any incident.

Foundation 65 and D65 Librarians Collaborate to Host Virtual Author Visit!
Foundation 65 and our district librarians have teamed up to host a series of virtual school-based events featuring author Juana Martinez Neal! The award winning, New York Times best selling author and illustrator, who has produced great works such as Alma and How She Got Her Name (which she wrote and illustrated), and Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story, winner of the 2020 Robert F. Sibert Medal, will virtually visit several D65 schools later this month. From October 25-27, Walker, Dawes, Oakton and Bessie Rhodes students will have the opportunity to meet the Peruvian-born, Connecticut-based author. Families across the district are also welcome to partake in the fun! On October 26, in partnership with the Evanston Public Library, all District 65 families are welcome to attend a virtual family event! More information will be forthcoming.
