Funds will support the creation of StoryWalks® to be installed in local parks and public spaces in the library system's three-county service area of Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty Counties. We will also establish mobile StoryWalks® that are portable and can be transported to library outreach activities and community events.
"We are so pleased to receive this grant and to have the opportunity to expand the Library's efforts to promote literacy and lifelong learning across our communities. The StoryWalk® projects will allow us to connect with a wider audience, including children and families who may not otherwise visit our library buildings," said David Singleton, Library Executive Director. "Readers of all ages can engage with stories and activities while enjoying the fresh air outdoors."
StoryWalks® are family-friendly outdoor adventures in which pages of a children’s picture book are placed along a walking trail with corresponding activities for each page. These experiences are designed for our communities to increase literacy awareness, encourage physical activity, and strengthen children's abilities to succeed in reading, writing, and learning.
“At International Paper, we believe our company cannot succeed if our communities do not succeed,” said Kristie Casler, Communications Coordinator, Port Wentworth Mill. “We are proud to support Live Oak Public Libraries as they strive to make an impact through StoryWalks®.”
