Why did you join GECP?
I believe that educators with global views, a respect for and understanding of cultural diversity, and an understanding of global citizenship are able to better serve students' academic, personal, and social-emotional needs. Being a member of GECP has allowed me to begin to learn how to do this for my future students.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy reading, playing my instruments (French Horn and Mellophone), hiking, and traveling/going on adventures.

Where is your favorite place to be?
On the water--either swimming, boating, or tubing!

Tell us about a powerful Global Experience you've had while at MSU:
Last spring and summer (2021), I participated in the Learning, Culture, Technology, and Education Virtual Study Abroad Program. This program was originally scheduled as a study abroad to the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and France. However, due to COVID-19, the travel opportunity was canceled. While I was bummed that I would not be able to travel, experience the culture, and interact with my colleagues in these countries, I was able to have an amazing virtual experience. I was able to engage with Dutch and Belgian preservice educators to learn about their schooling experiences and ideas and strategies to use in our future classrooms. It was a great experience that showed me much more about how culture and education are deeply intertwined.
The Student Spotlight section is run by GECP sophomore Ryan Chaben.
