A flood watch has been issued for Santa Barbara County, effective at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 14 through 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 15. Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds are predicted to roll in Tuesday morning and remain consistent through Wednesday morning. Current forecasts indicate this storm is likely to cause excessive runoff which may result in dangerous flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low lying and flood prone areas.

Construction Continues for the Westside Community Paseos Project


Construction for the Westside Community Paseos Project, which will provide strong walking and biking connections within the Westside, and from the Westside to Downtown, will continue this month (weather permitting) on the 600 block of West Mission Street and will last for two months in this location. The total project duration is approximately eight months.

Wastewater Main

Rehabilitation Project


The City is rehabilitating aging sewer pipe infrastructure throughout the City. Contractors will work from street manholes using trenchless methods to line sewer mains at 300 E. Figueroa Street and 2100 Red Rose Way the week of March 13 (weather permitting). Any odors generated are safe and non-toxic.

Reduced-Cost Lifeguard Training

This Spring


In an ongoing effort to improve the community's water safety, the Parks and Recreation Department will offer reduced-cost lifeguard certification courses in March and May. While the average training and certification cost is around $200, City residents can take the multi-day course for $50 and leave with American Red Cross certifications in lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and first aid.

Highway 217 Construction to Impact Airport Access


In mid-April, CalTrans will begin construction on Highway 217 which may impact access to the Airport. The Sandspit Road on and offramps may be periodically closed as crews replace the bridge above San Jose Creek. Passengers traveling to SBA are advised to use the Highway 101/Fairview Avenue exits or an alternate route.
