Hello!
October was a busy month of events at MRFRS and we enjoyed getting to spend time with many of our supporters and fellow cat lovers! The fun kicked off when we introduced a litter of six-week-old kittens to a group of feline fans at our Kitty Café at Newburyport Public Library.
We also enjoyed sharing safety information and pet rescue stickers when we joined the Salisbury Fire Department for their annual Fire Safety event. And of course, it was wonderful to celebrate this year’s Fur Ball Gala & Auction in person! (see the event recap below)
Read on to learn more about everything going on at MRFRS - and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming events!
P.S. - Enjoy celebrating National Cat Day with your favorite felines this Cat-urday (10/29)!

The 2022 Fur Ball was A-meow-zing!
This year's Fur Ball was extra special as friends and supporters of MRFRS gathered together for the first time since 2019 - plus we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the organization! The evening's theme of "Be a CATalyst" provided the opportunity to recognize the original founders of MRFRS and share the impact of three decades, with over 137,000 cats helped! There was also spirited bidding (both at the silent and live auction), a visit from everyone's favorite furry friend Toto, and stories of the cats whose lives have been changed forever thanks to MRFRS and those who believe in our mission.
The 2022 Fur Ball raised more than $100,000, which will help support our programs and improve the lives of even more cats in the coming year!
Thank you to all the many CATalysts (sponsors, donors, auction winners and volunteers) who helped make the 2022 Fur Ball such a success!

Fur Ball Top Cat Sponsor Spotlight
"Saving one animal will not change the world, but for that one animal,
the world changes forever."
The above quote is a favorite of our 2022 Fur Ball Top Cat Sponsors, Gail and Mike Lynch. As Gail shared, “Our love for cats and our commitment to advocate for them all started because of a little lost stray named Butch. Now we have four kitties, three of which are MRFRS alums! We believe in supporting the work that MRFRS does because of the many lives that are positively changed - not only the cats, but also the people who care about them.”
During the Fur Ball program, the many people who have contributed to MRFRS’s impact and success over the last three decades were recognized. These included the organization’s original founders, as well as the veterinarians, staff, volunteers, and donors who have all given so generously of their time, talent, and treasure.
Gail told us, “We’re looking forward to seeing all that MRFRS will accomplish in the years ahead and the many more cats who’s lives will change forever.” We are too and we thank Gail and Mike for being this year's Top Cat sponsors!

We are excited to invite everyone to join us in person for our annual holiday open house! You can shop like Santa Paws and find gifts for all the cats and cat lovers on your list!
There will be MRFRS items like our 2023 Cat Calendar, holiday ornaments, and cat toys and fleece beds. Plus, you’ll find one-of-a-kind handmade crafts, like knitwear, soaps, and candles for those harder to shop for people on your list. This year’s Whisker Wonderland also features a Silent Auction with themed baskets that you will definitely want to bid on. And did we mention the delicious homemade baked goods, like brownies, cookies, and cupcakes?
All the proceeds raised during Whisker Wonderland go directly to help support MRFRS’s programs and services, so you can feel good knowing you are helping improve the lives of cats while having some festive fun!
Make plans to visit us at the MRFRS Adoption Center on Saturday, December 10th between 10:00am and 3:00pm to do some holiday shopping and help the kitties!

MRFRS is Looking for New Volunteers
MRFRS can only help the cats and people who rely on our programs and services because of the incredible efforts of our volunteers. We are fortunate to have a wonderful volunteer team, but we could use more help, especially Cat Caregivers.
Cat Caregivers help keep the shelter clean, the kitties fed, and the litter boxes scooped – they are essential to the shelter and the well-being of our cats and kittens!
If you are interested in volunteering with MRFRS, especially in the role of a Cat Caregiver, please check out our website for information and to apply: https://mrfrs.org/volunteer/
MRFRS and the kitties thank you!

Happy Tails: Juniper (fka Princess Leia)
For those who have adopted a shy cat or under socialized kitten, you know that incredible feeling when all your patience and effort pay off and your new cat learns to trust you. Juniper’s new owner went through a similar process over the last few weeks and the transformation has been amazing! Here’s a look at how their bond has grown:
Day 10: Juniper is still very averse to being touched, but she has become comfortable hanging around the apartment. She is a very big fan of my stuffed animals and the laser pointer! I know that since she is under socialized, it will just take some time and patience. I’ll just keep giving her lots of attention (and treats!)
Day 12: Still making progress. I took your advice and got her chicken, and she is eating out of my hand! She seems to like sitting next to my chair while I work – still working up to petting her though.
Day 26: Juniper has turned into a cuddly sweetheart! She is still not loving being picked up, but she is crazy about being pet. She purrs very loud and has even accepted the love from my visiting friends. I wanted to share this awesome progress with you!
MRFRS currently has lots of kittens ready for adoption. Some of them are shy and need socialization like Juniper did, but with a little time and patience, they can become purring machines too! Visit our website to see just some of our adoptable kittens: https://mrfrs.org/meet-the-cats/
