Parking Lot Fundraising Campaign

For years Northmont’s parking lot has been deteriorating, with occasional patching keeping it in reasonable shape. At this point, though, it has reached a state of disrepair that can no longer be maintained simply by patching. Facilities Management has spoken with four paving contractors and every one of them has said the parking lot needs to be milled and repaved. Each contractor submitted a bid and as it turned out, the preferred vendor also submitted the least expensive bid. Stewardship & Finance concurred with Facilities Management and together they sent a proposal to resurface the parking lot to the Session. Session approved placing the contract with Tresco.

Session also approved establishing a Parking Lot Capital Fundraising Campaign with a goal of raising $95,000 for the paving project. Ted Mills has agreed to lead this capital campaign, with Jack Swick assisting, and Scott Davis has accepted the role of parking lot project manager.

It appears possible that Tresco may complete the work within the next couple of months and thankfully we have sufficient funds available to cover the cost when completed. This has given us flexibility to set August 31, 2025 as the target end date for the campaign and, as we kick off the funding drive, we are pleased to report commitments totaling $26,600 have already been received! Please consider contributing to this project,  in addition to your annual giving. Indicate “Parking Lot Campaign” with your donations so your gifts can be properly accounted. Funds collected exceeding our goal will be credited to the Major Repairs & Maintenance Fund.

One hundred years ago our Presbyterian forebearers started a church in Ross Township. Subsequent generations have invested in and improved this facility. We are the inheritors of all their efforts and now it is our responsibility to maintain or improve this facility for ourselves and future generations. Our parking lot is an essential element of Northmont’s infrastructure. It is outward facing to the public and contributes to the welcoming and safe environment we project.

As stewards of Northmont, please give prayerful consideration to this request.

AMOS meets this Wednesday, 3/19 at 6 o'clock for comfort food and fellowship. Roast chicken, cheesy potatoes, salad, and ice cream are on the menu.

All are welcome!

On Sunday, March 23 we welcome

The Reverend Alick Kennedy, who will kick off our 100th year anniversary Guest Preacher Series.

Alick served as the pastor of neighboring Heritage Presbyterian for many years, and has worshipped here with us in his retirement. He has served Northmont as Pastor Emeritus, in Stephen Ministry,

on the Memorial Committee, and as a teacher.

We are honored to have him begin this special series. Please plan on joining us!

Clef Notes

Music Director, Stephen Schall

stephen@northmontchurch.org

On Sunday we’ll resume the Hymn of the Month with a more-recent setting of the hymn “In the Cross of Christ I Glory.” This new-to-Northmont lyric tune, TOMTER, was composed by living American church musician, Bruce Neswick. Bruce has been a high-profile musician for his entire career, having this tune included in the Episcopal Church’s Hymnal 1982, at a young age, winning first prizes in various competitions in organ improvisation, holding posts at prestigious churches such as The National Cathedral and St. John the Divine in NYC, and being music director at the Episcopal cathedrals in Buffalo, Lexington, and Atlanta. Bruce is a concert organist and had choral and organ compositions published by several houses.

It can be exciting to note how new life can be breathed into an old and beloved text simply by singing it to a new tune. I hope you find this to be the case with this pairing.

The Northmont Dining Out Group will gather on March 24 at 6:30 at Primanti Bros. in McIntyre Square. All are invited to join!

St Paul's United Methodist Church (Ferguson Rd. in Allison Park) invites anyone interested to join their 2025 workcamp (Sunday, May 11 to Saturday, May 17), which will travel to help the folks in western North Carolina & eastern Tennessee, working with a group called Appalachia Service Project (ASP) on housing damaged by hurricane Helene (somewhere TBD along the border).

Volunteers would drive themselves (some like to go early, some return late), and cover their own food and gas, but everything else is expected to be covered. More details to be forthcoming.

Questions can be directed to Cheryl English or Ted Mills.
