Wine Spectator
Board Approves Charitable Gift from Wine Spectator
In accordance with BP 3820, the Board approved the acceptance of a charitable gift in the amount of $10 million from the Wine Spectator Scholarship Foundation for the use and benefit of the Napa Valley College Wine Education Center. The Wine Spectator Scholarship Foundation’s gift will be used to support the construction and renovation of the Wine Education Center at the Napa Valley College.

Board Approves Naming of Wine Education Complex

In accordance with BP/AP 6620, the Board approved naming the new wine education complex: The Wine Spectator Wine Education Complex at Napa Valley College. The Board of Trustees also approved the naming of the new classroom building: The Wine Spectator Classroom, the naming of the remodeled laboratory: The Wine Spectator Laboratory, and the naming of the rebuilt tasting room: The Wine Spectator Tasting Room. These naming designations will be in perpetuity.

Board Approves Contract with TLCD Architecture for Wine Spectator Education Complex Project

The Board approved a contract with TLCD Architecture to provide architectural design services for the Wine Spectator Education Complex Project, including architectural and engineering services for a preliminary design, working drawings and construction administration for the construction of the new wine sensory classrooms and tasting room and renovation of the existing wine laboratory.

Board Recognizes Native American Heritage Month
The Board passed a resolution proclaiming November as Native American Heritage Month. Napa Valley College seeks to strengthen ties with the Native peoples in the Napa Valley with the goal of better serving all our communities and enriching the educational opportunities for our students.

Board Approves Revised 2022-23 Academic Calendar

The Board approved the 2022-2023 academic calendar, which meets the legal mandates and the holidays and breaks coincidewith those scheduled by NVUSD. The summer 2023 calendar is under further discussion.

Board Policy First Reading

The Napa Valley College District is in the process of updating and revising its Board Policy Manual with the assistance of the Community College of California (CCLC) Policy and Procedure Service. The Board of Trustees had the first reading:

BP 2310 Regular Meetings of the Board: The CCLC Policy Service updated this policy to reflect new Brown Act provisions allowing Governing Boards to conduct virtual meetings during proclaimed states of emergency. (Government Code Section 54953, as amended by Assembly Bill 361)

Board Approves Contract with Career America dba Ocelot for Chatbot
The Board approved a contract with Career America LLC dba Ocelot (“Ocelot”) to provide a 24/7 AI chatbot chat bot to support customer service to the students of NVC.
Board Approves Contract Renewal with DocuSign
The Board approved a renewal contract with DocuSign, Inc. for cloud-based digital transaction management, so NVC can continue to provide secure online forms, signatures and document submissions to stakeholder.

Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training: Amendment to Agreement #21112121 to provide Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) to law enforcement rainees employed by county law enforcement agencies.

Humboldt State University Sponsored Programs Foundation: Sub Award Agreement for the Napa-Sonoma Small Business Development Center.

California Department of Education: Amendment #02 CSPP-0331 California State Preschool Program Agreement for FY 20-21

UPDATES & PRESENTATIONS
Redistricting Update
John Tuteur, Assessor-Recorder-County-Clerk for Napa County presented an update on the 2020 census data and the effects on trustee areas. He noted that there will be a joint workshop with Napa County Office of Education on November 16 at 3 pm.
Institutional Self-Evaluation Report Update
Dr. Robyn Wornall provided an update on the Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER), which represents the first step in that process. The Accreditation Co-Chairs have been gradually posting draft sections of the ISER, along with associated evidence, on the college website for review by the campus community since October 7. They have also held forums to collect input from the campus community. The complete ISER will be presented to the Board for final approval at the December meeting. NVC’s ISER is due to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) by December 15, 2021.
