Red-Eye Blues
I think I am done with red-eye flights. Last week, I had to fly out to Tucson on Thursday morning for a meeting of the University of Arizona Cancer Center’s External Advisory Board. The meeting ended at about 4 p.m. on Friday, and there were no evening flights back east from Tucson. I chose to fly home on the 12:50 a.m. red-eye from Phoenix, reasoning that I would be able to have more of the weekend at home. Well, I was wrong.

Damon Runyon Fellowship Award
The Damon Runyon Fellowship Award supports the training of the brightest postdoctoral scientists as they embark upon their research careers. This funding enables them to be mentored by established investigators in leading research laboratories across the country. Applicants must have completed one or more of the following degrees or its equivalent: MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DDS, DVM, DO. Candidates must apply for the fellowship under the guidance of a Sponsor — a scientist (tenured, tenure-track or equivalent position) capable of providing mentorship to the Fellow. Awards are made to institutions for the support of the Fellow under direct supervision of the Sponsor. Candidates who have already accepted a postdoctoral research fellowship award are not eligible. View additional eligibility criteria. This four-year award provides $60,000, $62,000, $64,000, and $66,000 in stipend support for years one, two, three, and four, respectively. In addition, an annual $2,000 expense allowance is awarded to the laboratory in which the Fellow is working and can be used by the Fellow for their educational and scientific expenses. AAI Careers in Immunology Fellowship Program
The AAI Careers in Immunology Fellowship Program supports the career development of young scientists by providing eligible PIs with one year of salary support for a trainee in their labs. The fellowship does not pay fringe benefits or other indirect costs to the institution. PIs must be independent research scientists who are AAI regular members in good standing. At the time of application, the PI should have no more than $350,000 U.S. dollars in total annual direct costs (excluding PI salary) from all funding sources, including start-up funds. Trainees must be AAI members in good standing at the time of application and have a current Trainee Certification Form on record with AAI. AAI encourages applications from and for women and underrepresented minority scientists. Award consideration is based on the merit of the PI’s proposed project, potential of the trainee, the quality of the training environment, and financial need. View application instructions. Deadline: 11:59 p.m. ET, March 15.
