Advent is upon us. During these days leading up to Christmas, we are invited to celebrate Christ’s coming into the world and watch with expectant hope for his coming again. There are many opportunities happening around FPC to aid us in our watching and waiting.
First, last Sunday, we embarked on a new sermon series that we are calling Witnesses To The Miracle. Every Sunday in worship this Advent we are exploring some of the lesser-known characters in the story of Jesus’ birth and considering what they have to teach us about the power and place of the incarnation in our lives today. Don’t forget that if you miss worship on a Sunday, you can always find a full recording online as well as listen to the sermon podcast anytime (*just search “First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg Sermoncast” on any podcast platform). I also encourage you to take advantage of our congregational Advent devotional and consider participating in one of the many opportunities to share Christ’s light with others throughout this season – e.g., White Gifts Service on December 14, Reverse Advent Calendar, or sponsoring a child from Cleveland Academy this Christmas. Details on all of these wonderful resources and happenings can be found below.
Finally, I want to say thank you to each of you for your ongoing generous support to the ministry and mission of First Presbyterian Church as a whole. As we enter the month of December, financial giving to the church remains strong. Based on historical trends we are hopeful that we will meet or slightly exceed budgeted giving for a second year in a row. If you have not yet completed your pledge for this year or would like to give, please consider making a gift before December 31. And if you have not yet submitted your pledge of estimated giving for 2023, I hope you will consider doing so. Pledging encourages the generosity of others and helps strengthening the Gospel ministry of First Presbyterian in our community and beyond. More information about both of these opportunities can be found below or by clicking here.
Advent blessings to you all. See you Sunday. Invite a friend!
Peace,

Rev. Alan F. Dyer
Senior Pastor

Thank You, Landon Hammett!
We give thanks to Landon Hammett for his leadership of UKirk Spartanburg over the past six years. UKirk is a campus ministry that serves students from several surrounding colleges. Landon recently resigned from his role with UKirk due to growing demands in his full-time job outside of campus ministry and to discern where God might be leading him in the future as he nears the end of the ordination process to become a Minister of Word and Sacrament.
Landon and his family will continue to be active at the church — including playing in the MorningSong band — so be sure to tell him “thank you” when you see him around.
