Family Prayer

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Reading I : Micah 5:1-4
From you will come forth a savior.
  • The prophet Micah preached in and around Jerusalem in the eighth century B.C.
  • In today’s passage, Micah proclaims that hope will arise from another “city of David,” Bethlehem, and not Jerusalem.
  • The new king, the new anointed one who would bring salvation, would come like David from Bethlehem, and his kingdom would reach to the ends of the earth.

Reading II : Hebrews 10:5-10
One sacrifice instead of many.
  • The reading from the Letter to the Hebrews presents the incarnation of Jesus from a different perspective.
  • In today’s passage, the author discusses the difference between Jewish sacrifice and the one Christian sacrifice, the death of Jesus.
  • Jesus’ sacrifice of himself, a sacrifice offered only once, was made possible by his assuming a human body and human existence.

Gospel : Luke 1:39-45
Mary visits Elizabeth.
  • In today’s Gospel, Mary travels to the hill country of Judah, to the home of Zechariah and Elizabeth, where she visits Elizabeth.
  • When they meet, Elizabeth proclaims the greatness of Mary’s child and John the Baptizer, still in her womb, leaps for joy.
  • Luke makes it evident in today’s passage, that both mothers and both children are filled with the Holy Spirit.

A Message from Mr. Oberdorf
Hello,

Wow! What a show! The 2021 SJE Christmas concert was awesome. We had two outstanding performances. The music was rehearsed throughout the year and the students knew their songs. As with any show, the staff and students were extremely busy trying to perfect the performance and work out the logistics of the show in the days leading up to it. Final preparation was even more challenging because our music teacher, Mrs. Weyer, was quarantined at home. She was ill and still had virtual rehearsals with all of the classes on Friday. Mrs. Weyer put together an outstanding show and really allowed our students to share their amazing voices and talents.

A big shout out and a huge thank you to our retired SJE music teacher, Ms. Skalecki, for helping us through our final week of preparation. I reached out to her for assistance and she gave our school two days worth of her time to make sure the show would still go on. A big shout out to the school’s staff and students for all of their hard work in putting the show together and a big thank you to everyone who attended. I hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did.

Due to the parish power outage, pictures will be provided at a later time.

May your days be merry and bright this Christmas season and throughout the New Year. Best wishes for a joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with prosperity, good health, and happiness. Merry Christmas!

Mr. Oberdorf
Out-of-Uniform Day

Because yesterday's power outage caused school to be canceled, we have rescheduled the out-of-uniform day for Monday, December 20th. This out-of-uniform day was not on the calendar, but was granted by Mr. Oberdorf because of all the hard work that was put into the Christmas program on Wednesday.
Student Drop off and Pick Up Procedure

Parents who are dropping off and picking up their students at the K4 Door (#6) are reminded that they should park in the parking lot and walk up to the door. For the safety of all who use that parking lot, we ask that you do not just pull up to the door or the sidewalk. Only families with students in K4 should be using door #6. Others should drive around to the north side of the building and use door #12. Thank you for your cooperation.
NJHS Advent Collection

The NJHS members and SJE school community would like to thank the families who have generously donated to the Advent Capuchin Holiday Food Box Collection. If you have not had a chance to donate, please consider donating one of the following items: a box of instant mashed potatoes, boxes of instant Jello or pudding mix, a large can of yams, 2 boxes of cornbread mix, canned corn, canned green beans, or 2 cans of cranberries. These are the items of greatest need to help us fill our 25 boxes!

Due to the school closure on Thursday, December 16th, we will be collecting food through 8:00 am on Monday, December 20th.  Thank you!
