LEADERSHIP GEAUGA

The THIRD Heritage Program Class graduated in November. Heritage Program participants deepened their knowledge and appreciation of the challenges and opportunities in Geauga County during their 7-week program. Theme days included the History Day Bus Tour, Agriculture Day, meeting with Farmers who shared their challenges in a rural community. Through their behind-the-scenes exposure to speakers and locations from Economic Development (Team NEO, Geauga Growth Partnership, Social Services agencies including the Hunger Task Force, Department of Aging, Harriett Tubman Movement, Cyber Security, New Leaf Drug Court Program and more.

The Heritage FALL Class of 2022 developed two primary themes for their engagement in projects following graduation;

  1. Food Insecurity: Imagine every Geauga County Resident had access to nutritious food every day. 4 of the 8 Class members volunteer to deliver meals through the Hunger Task Force and they added two new volunteers at graduation.
  2. Are You OK? Imagine every older adult or “opted in” resident in Geauga County who lives alone received a check- in everyday to ensure they were OK. The Fall Class of 2022 is working on two methods of resolving this issue – through the already established Meal delivery Program and also connecting through the communication system used by the Public School System. The Class met after graduation to further work on this.

The Heritage Program participants demonstrate that Retirees, who possess a lifetime of skills and experience, and provided with the right exposure to community challenges, can help make Geauga and surrounding counties an even better place to live!

One graduate of the Fall program exclaimed “This is the best thing I have done in Geauga County in my 28 years here!”

E3 CO-SPONSORED ANNUAL EXPO

For the past six years, the National Caucus and Center on Black Aging, Inc. (NCBA) has hosted a Senior Expo at Fairhill. This year’s event was co-sponsored by Fairhill Partners, CVS Health and Encore Employment Enterprise (E3). The Expo featured a Welcome and Keynote Address by Willie Wright, Program Manager of NCBA- OHIO, an array of vendors for participants to visit, and a luncheon catered by Camille’s Cochina Catering Company.

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb was a Special Guest Speaker following the lunch. Participants had the opportunity to choose from among seven workshops during a Breakout Session and to meet with Hiring Managers representing local businesses. There were raffle giveaways at the end of the program.

Youth Ambassadors from the Cleveland Job Corps helped with distribution of materials, collecting lunch orders and provided other assistance to participants. These young people also gained information and awareness of issues of aging in a multi-generational society and workforce.

E3 will be hosting the Senior Expo in 2023 and is already looking at new ways to expand the audience and more fully engage participants. Watch for more information on the schedule and location of the 2023 Senior Expo coming early spring 2023 in this newsletter.
