District will be Seeking Applications for Community Stakeholder Group

The District will soon be accepting applications from community members wishing to participate in a stakeholder group that will help shape and guide implementation of the Long-Term Master Facilities Plan by providing guidance and feedback during the process.

The District is proposing a stakeholder group of approximately 30 members. Half of the group would be determined by random lottery and half would be appointed by the District and Board of Education to ensure equitable demographic and geographic representation.

Applications are expected to open later this month, with members of the group being identified by mid-November. It is expected the group would hold its first meeting by early December 2023 and would meet monthly thereafter.

District Meets with Architect for Ludlow Project

On October 10, the District leadership group met with the Akron-based GPD Group to discuss next steps in the conversion of the former Ludlow Elementary School into a PreK complex. The District has contracted with GPD for design and architectural services.

The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including scheduling a “meet the architects” community engagement event to share information with the Ludlow community and others and to gather feedback. Also discussed was the intent to qualify for a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) designation.

Additionally, today was the deadline for prospective Construction Managers at Risk (CMAR) to file their request for qualifications. A CMAR is a project delivery method which entails a commitment by the Construction Manager to deliver the project within a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP). A team that will include GPD will identify finalists for the job, who will then be required to submit request for proposals (RFPs). The RFPs will detail the cost of such items as office space needs during construction, traffic patterns around the construction site, trash removal from the site and collaboration with the city. The District expects to recommend a choice for CMAR at the December Board of Education meeting.
