Grant Spotlight: Museum Grant Program open for applications | |
The SaskCulture Museum Grant Program (MGP) provides operational funding to help foster strong, vibrant, community-based Saskatchewan museums that are valued and supported by society. This funding enables museums to focus on excellence in their programs and operations and to contribute to the understanding of the world and our place in it — our past, our present, and our future. The application deadlines are November 1, 2023 (Stream 2 & 3) and December 1, 2023 (Stream 1).

Humboldt receives Public Art Sustainability Award for Reconciliation Mural | The City of Humboldt received national recognition for its mural titled Reconciliation Mural on October 5, 2023. The mural, which received project funding from SaskCulture's Community Cultural Engagement and Planning Grant, was designed by Indigenous artist Kevin PeeAce with the participation of 185 local students. The project was chosen by the Creative City Network of Canada for its impact on the community, particularly for the children involved. Read more | SK museums asked to share inventory of Indigenous materials | The Museum Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) is asking all its Institutional Members to share the inventory of all Indigenous material in their collections to gauge the amount of Indigenous material held across Saskatchewan museums. The ongoing survey will help MAS develop resources to assist members with Reconciliation efforts. Read more | Nine local film productions expected to generate $21 million | A screening hosted this month by Creative Saskatchewan showed the growing economic impact of the Saskatchewan film industry. The nine films shown are among the 34 projects funded over the past two years by the organization's Feature Film and Television Production Grant Program, and are expected to generate $21 million. For every $1 invested, the economy received a boost of $4.80. Read more | SK cultural community among leaders in environmental practices | In a recent report, Hill Strategies reviewed environmental practices of arts, heritage and entertainment organizations/businesses in Canada, and found many were implementing some type of environmental program. While New Brunswick (85%) and Quebec (80%) were ranked the highest, Saskatchewan’s arts, heritage and entertainment organizations were ranked fourth highest at 75%, higher than the national average of 72%. Environmental practices include a written environmental policy, reduction of waste, reduction of energy or water consumption, choosing environmentally responsible practices, products and suppliers, using clean energy sources and measuring their environmental footprint. Intersectional Allyship for Racial Justice: White Allies (Equity In The Centre)
This workshop will equip those that seek to promote racial equity within their organization with tools to be an active ally for racial justice through methods of naming white privilege, centering people of color, navigating intersectionality across identities, influencing others, and continuing a self-work journey.
