Dear GSPC members and friends,
I have been heartbroken by news reports and images from Israel and Gaza this last week. I join with the many who have condemned last Saturday's terrorist attack by Hamas in unequivocal terms. There is no justice to be found nor justification to be made for such horrific violence. I pray for the people of Israel.
I have long been deeply concerned by the plight of Palestinians. As Gaza finds itself with a deepening humanitarian crisis due to Israeli retaliation and preparations for war, my prayers and concerns for Palestine continue. Last weekend's attack by Hamas reflects the group's lack of concern for the safety of even the people they govern. I pray that Israel's leadership will, in contrast, exercise care for innocent lives.
I am also deeply troubled by reports of increased threats and necessary security across our own country for Jewish schools, businesses, and houses of worship. I offer my support and prayers for Jewish friends and neighbors, particularly our friends at Spring Hill Avenue Temple and Ahavas Chesed Synagogue here in Mobile. I have reached out to both Rabbi Boraz and Rabbi Silberman to express my support and prayers for the safety of their congregations and Jewish congregations around the nation and world, particularly as they begin their Shabbat observances this evening.
As Christians, we worship and serve a Messiah who refused violence at every opportunity, even though his refusal led him to the cross. May we live out our faith in Christ by working for peace in every way we can, and praying for the day when God’s holy peace will reign.
Prayerfully,
|
