December 2022 Newsletter
Leadership Message
Holiday Greetings Supporters,

I hope that you and your family had a wonderful and prosperous Thanksgiving!

The holidays are in full swing here at ACHIEVE, as you’ll see in this month’s newsletter!

Hopefully by now you’ve received our 2023 Annual Appeal outlining the growth and opportunities for expanding our programming and community presence that we experienced this year as we stabilized in a post-COVID world. I appreciate your consideration of a year-end gift that will have a direct impact on the lives of the 2,200 individuals we support here at ACHIEVE as we continue to further that spirit of growth and seek opportunities to continue expansion. Information on donating to our Annual Appeal is also included in this month’s newsletter.

I know for myself, this time of year is always a season of reflection, and I’m once again reminded of the overwhelming and unwavering support we’ve received over the last year from families, donors, community members, corporate supporters and more. I want to sincerely say thank you to our wonderful community who have had a positive impact across our agency in so many different ways this year, and speak for all of us when I say we are beyond grateful.

December is always a very popular month here at ACHIEVE, and excitement is certainly building for the holidays again this year as celebrations begin across the agency! From all of us at ACHIEVE, I wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday!

Community Habilitation is part of the Family Support and Services offered by ACHIEVE.

Community Habilitation Providers work one-on-one or in small groups with individuals in a community setting to facilitate inclusion, integration and relationship building. Individuals work on goals which enhance, increase or maintain independence skills in a fun environment!

Chenango Community Habilitation Thanksgiving Party!
Congratulations on Your Retirement, Brenda!
After working at Wegman’s since February 2001, Brenda decided that it was time to retire and have some FUN!
Her Community Habilitation provider, Julie, and Brenda worked together to plan her retirement party for all of her friends and family to join her in celebrating! Brenda got to pick what she would like to eat, drink, what kind of music was played, and Wegman’s graciously donated her favorite cake with raspberry filling!

A great time was had by all, and Brenda’s smile speaks volumes about how she feels about going into this next phase of life!
Congratulations, Jennifer!
Congratulations to Jennifer on her selection as the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year!

Jennifer was recently joined by her parents and her Job Coach, Tracy, for an awards dinner to recognize her more than 20 years volunteering at different community organizations like the Bainbridge Soup Kitchen, Jericho Arts Council, American Legion and Lions Club, where she is one of their most active members with nearly perfect attendance. In addition, Jennifer has been a participant with the Greek Peak Adoptive Snowsports Program, where she has worked her way up to Assistant Skiing Coach, using her skills to ski many of the high peaks in the Rocky Mountains.

Congratulations, Jennifer, on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for all you do to give back to your community!
We are very happy to bring you another installment of #WhyIACHIEVE, highlighting Mackenzie Cafferty, Program Manager of Patterson and Wildwood residences.

“I have been with ACHIEVE for more than three years and have been a Program Manager for one year! I love working for ACHIEVE for numerous reasons; not only can I help the individuals grow and succeed but I, myself, can grow and learn alongside them. My job allows me to provide a nurturing and caring environment that has also given me a home away from home. ACHIEVE has truly become a family to me and provides me with the support I need in life.”
Congratulations, Doug!
We're proud to congratulate our Sterry Drive Assistant Residence Manager Doug Nichols on his selection as one of Community Care Rx's Direct Support Professional Excellence Award recipients!

Doug was recognized at a special Direct Support Professional Award Gala hosted by Community Care RX, where he received his award from Ann Marie Sullivan, Office of Mental Health Commissioner, and Kerri Neifeld, Office for People with Developmental Disabilities Commissioner.

Congratulations, Doug!

We truly appreciate your support in helping us reach our goal!
Thank You to our 2022 Platinum Partners!
The Season That Keeps on Giving
Earlier this month, our Broome Day Habilitation had the great idea to start a food drive for Thanksgiving this year. We are happy to share that they received more than two carts full of food to donate to Catholic Charities; an exceptional way to give back to the community and help those in need!
Staying Fit at Synergy Athletics
You may remember the news story earlier this year about our Recreation Respite team's partnership with Synergy Athletics in Endwell to help promote wellness and healthy living. With the holidays approaching, they recently had their final session of the year!

We're looking forward to all the healthy activities to come in the new year!
Oh Christmas Tree!
It’s never too early to start decorating for Christmas!

Be sure to head over to the Roberson Museum and Science Center to check out ACHIEVE’s Christmas tree for their annual Home for the Holidays event!

This event runs from November 17th -January 6th and is a beautiful display that features traditions from many cultures around the world as well as trees decorated by local businesses. We hope everyone can visit Roberson and see all the wonderful festivities in person!

Rally Time!
We’re beyond proud to have joined provider agencies from across the state for the New York Disability Advocates legislative rally in Albany, highlighting funding priorities for 2023, including a long overdue 8.5% cost of living adjustment!
Chenango Day Habilitation Celebrates Thanksgiving
Members of our leadership team stopped by to help cut turkey and hand out everyone's favorite Thanksgiving staples at the Chenango Day Habilitation's annual Thanksgiving luncheon! A delicious and fun afternoon for everyone!
Vocational Success at Vestal Park Rehabilitation
Chris (left) and Kris (right) have both worked at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Vestal for two and four years. They are employed through Central Solutions Staffing and work within the Dietary Department at the nursing home. They are both responsible for delivering meal trays to the residents, ensuring clean workstations, washing and putting away dishes and silverware, as well as discarding garbage and recycling.

Chris and Kris are proud to be a part of Vestal Park and strive to work hard every day. They enjoy working with their coworkers, supervisors, and seeing all the residents.

With supports and guidance from ACHIEVE, both Chris and Kris have stepped up to the plate and help anyone out who needs assistance. They have both provided training to every new hire and have assisted in making sure all tasks are completed before clocking out at the end of their shift. Both their coworkers and supervisors appreciate all the hard work and dedication that they provide.

Chris and Kris continue to show a positive attitude and are gratified to see that everyone has a valuable role at their job!
Hot Cocoa Run!
Congratulations to Kolby and Team Kolby for their participation and medaling in The Arc Otsego's 8th annual Hot Cocoa Run 5K & 1K with Ainsley's Angels! Great job!
Chenango Day Habilitation Lends a Helping Hand
ACHIEVE had the pleasure of assisting Helping Hands with their monthly community service by assembling care packages for those in need.

Helping Hands then helps out residents in Chenango County by collecting and handing out everything from pet food to Chobani yogurt, to a variety of hygiene items and much more!

Great work everyone! Thank you for lending a hand to such a great cause.
Recreation Respite Visits the Phantom Kitchen
Our Recreation team had a blast learning how to make fresh pasta, marinara and alfredo sauce from scratch at Phantom Chef LLC!

Thank you, Chef Michelle, for teaching us how to make our own delicious dinner!

The growth of the Foundation is determined by planned gifts from our community and family members.
