Hello Lydia,
“gratitude”
noun
US /ˈɡræt̬.ə.tuːd/ UK /ˈɡræt.ɪ.tʃuːd/
(also gratefulness, US/ɡreɪt.fəl.nəs/ UK/ɡreɪt.fəl.nəs/)
the feeling or quality of being grateful: deep/eternal gratitude
Gratitude is a gift. Not only for the person receiving, but for the deliverer as well. Studies have shown gratitude can boost happiness and resilience and even improve overall health. So, as a birthday gift to myself and, more importantly, because the incredible people in my life deserve to be given thanks, here is some of what I am grateful for:
- My amazing wife and loving family (including our pup, Lexi). Thank you.
- My friends who love and support me like family. Thank you.
- Each member of the incredible District 9 family who put their hearts into improving people’s lives. Thank you.
- The community organizers, advocates and volunteers who dedicate so much time and energy into uplifting our community. Thank you.
- The community that provided me with the opportunity to serve District 9 and all of San Diego. Thank you.
It is very likely you fall into one of the categories listed above, so thank you for the gifts you’ve provided me. I really am grateful.
With gratitude,
Sean

Honoring Indigenous Peoples
This time of year brings up many emotions for people. For many Indigenous people, this time of year represents a period of mourning in reflection of the history of colonization. For some, this means fasting the entire day, and for others it means gathering with family for a shared meal. We’ve shared some of the perspectives about Thanksgiving that Indigenous people offered to reporter Nora Mabie of the Great Falls Tribune.
As you’ll see, every tribe and every person may have a different way of commemorating this time. Our minds and hearts are especially with the Kumeyaay Nation whose land San Diego resides on.
However you choose to recognize Thanksgiving, whether you’re spending time with chosen family, in community, or with yourself, know that you are valued, you are loved, and you matter.
Whose Land Are You Occupying?
Much of Central, Southern, and Eastern San Diego County is Kumeyaay territory; while much of North County is Luiseño traditional homeland. Find out which Indigenous Peoples land you are occupying at: www.native-land.ca

Council District 9 Updates | |
|
City Redistricting Information
Every 10 years, the City goes through a redistricting process to update council district boundaries. This is led by the independent Redistricting Commission. After over a year of discussions, the final map for the new City Council district boundaries was approved by the commission on December 15, 2021. The new map will then go into effect this December 12, 2022. You can view the new maps here: https://districtr.org/plan/92973
District 9 will have significant changes. We will be gaining the following neighborhoods: Stockton, Redwood Village, Rolando Park, Normal Heights, and Mission Valley East. We will be losing Southcrest and most of the Mountain View neighborhood.
We are working on having as seamless of a transition process as possible with our colleagues. The City's district GIS page will update with inauguration, but you can check out the County's dashboard for the City's district if you are in a neighborhood that will be impacted: https://gis-portal.sandiegocounty.gov/arcgis/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=f6024e57eddb42ddb75dd0ff1193d338.

Library Community Listening Sessions
Libraries are vital community centers. They meet essential needs by providing services, such as digital and literary access, at no-cost. We know how important these spaces are for connection and learning. We also know libraries have different meanings to different folks. That is why it is important to have your voice heard on the future of your library!
The San Diego Public Library and Library Foundation SD want to hear from YOU as they develop the Library Master Plan.
You are invited to a special community listening session to share #YourLibraryYourVision with the library.
When and where is the District 9 session?
Can’t show up in-person?

Election Recap
The final count for the midterm election results have yet to be revealed but we know that nearly 54% of registered voters cast their ballots. Thank you to all those who exercised your right to vote and make your voices heard.
Everyone can see the results of the election at the County’s Registrar of Voters site: www.sdvote.com. The City of San Diego Measure C, which will lift the 30-food height limit, Measure D, which changes contracting rules and, Measure H, allowing childcare facilities at City Park facilities all passed.
Measure B, which reforms a 100-year-old inequitable trash law, holds a slim lead and looks likely to pass. For decades, the City of San Diego have faced challenges resulting from this restrictive law. Residents can now begin the conversation about the kinds of services that they would like to have.

Applications for Short-Term Residential Occupancy Licenses
Time is running out for hosts to apply for a license to operate a short-term residential occupancy (STRO) or rental! Licenses will be required to operate a dwelling unit in the City of San Diego. The application period for Tier 3 and Tier 4 licenses closes on Nov. 30; the STRO license will be required starting May 1, 2023.
The STRO Ordinance, approved by the San Diego City Council and California Coastal Commission, provides guidelines for short-term rentals of less than one month. These guidelines include a requirement for hosts to obtain a license and establish a cap on the number of licenses granted for whole-home rentals operating more than 20 days per year. Learn more.
Please share this information with your network of contacts. For more information, please call 619-615-6120 or email stro@sandiego.gov.
