A PLACE OF EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

Spectacular Sonora Spotlight Program:

International Baccalaureate Program

Each week we will feature one of our pathways/families of learners to determine where you belong among any/multiple pathways at Sonora High School. This week we will feature our International Baccalaureate Program. Sonora has offered the internationally respected International Baccalaureate Program since 1986. This program allows students to direct their own learning pathway and develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive and make a lasting difference. Internationally and nationally, universities recognize the rigor of this program, including the UC schools that offer 30 quarter units for students that receive their diploma with a score of at least 30. Almost 100% of all Sonora diploma candidates receive their diploma, allowing these candidates a more selective college admission experience, as well as the ability to double major or graduate early at the university level.

Many of our IB students take multiple AP classes as well, allowing them the opportunity to earn even more units for university study.

There is no one “type” of IB student. This group includes varsity athletes, talented artists, first-generation students, and dedicated philanthropists. They are all united in their desire to succeed at the highest levels. Being an IB student does make your college application stand out, but even more importantly, it gives you the opportunity to succeed once you get there!

Sonora IB and AP teachers have been recognized for their excellence in their profession, and we have had 2 National Association Biology Teachers of the year on staff, as well as the IB California Teacher of the Year. Sonora students have also been recognized for their excellence. We found out this week that three IB Diploma students are Gates Scholarship Finalists. Additionally, our one student accepted through USC’s new early decision program in 2023 is also an IB Diploma candidate.

The IB Class of 2021 and 2022 diploma students were accepted to every UC campus, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and Penn, as well as every CSU campus and a multitude of other universities.

Students can choose to pursue a full IB Diploma, or individual certificates. Sonora High School is very proud of our IB and AP classes and programs. These classes are open to all students, with a focus on equity and excellence. We encourage you to explore the unparalleled opportunities available at Sonora High School.

We are so proud of your students and staff associated with this phenomenal pathway. Behold our Blue and Gold!! Go Raiders!  #beholdblueandgold #iamsonora

School Resource Officer

Officer Viramontes is a dependable SRO who is always eager to be proactive with our students. She is one who is able to connect well with the Sonora High School Community. There is not a time when we cannot count on her to go the extra mile with our students. Here at Sonora High School, we all interact with each other as if we were family. This is one of the things that I am most proud of as the principal. We are positive in our interactions with each other and in most cases we are around each other more so than we are around our very own family members.  Officer Viramontes is part of our family. If there is ever anything that a student is in need of, we work together to be sure that we provide it for them.

Thank you Officer Viramontes for all that you do for our Sonora Raider Family!! #beholdblueandgold
