CMU Checkoff Passes!

The Department of Commerce (DOC) announced that concrete block producers have approved the CMU Checkoff. The vote to establish the checkoff required two majorities:
  1. A majority of manufacturers who voted and
  2. A majority of the machine cavities in operation of those voting in the referendum. 

“The CMU Checkoff is a game-changer for our industry. With our checkoff we are taking control of our future and ensuring that block will be on top today, tomorrow and well into the future,” said CMU Checkoff Chair, Major Ogilvie.

December 18, 2021 is the effective date of the Concrete Masonry Products Research, Education, and Promotion Order. Read more from the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) here.

On Thursday, January 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM ET, CMU Checkoff will be hosting a brief webinar to provide additional information on immediate next steps associated with beginning implementation of this program.

Masonry Contractors of New Jersey has supported the CMU Checkoff and encouraged CMU producers to do the same.

January 12, 2022 Virtual Breakfast Seminar: Grouting Reinforced Masonry Structures

The introduction of grout and reinforcement in structural masonry has expanded masonry’s performance characteristics allowing for taller heights and thinner profiles. Provisions of the code and standards have become more efficient over the past few cycles, yielding to higher productivity in the field. This presentation will cover basic grouting and reinforcement requirements for structural masonry. Considerations for correct grout and reinforcement placement, tolerances, grout cover, consolidation of grout and placement of anchor bolts are discussed. Click here for more details and to register.
