A Sacred Journey

by Fr. Casey

We will journey to places hallowed by the sacrifices of countless women, men, and children through the ages who toiled under slavery, suffered the cruelties of segregation, endured the horrors of racial terrorism, and eventually led one of the greatest movements for justice our world has ever known.

Our group will visit places most people know as words in history books –Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, Edmund Pettus Bridge, 16th Street Baptist Church, Central High School, Lorraine Motel. We will walk in the footsteps of saints, a few whose names are still remembered but most who are unknown but no less a part of the “great cloud of witnesses,” for they risked everything for the cause of true liberty and equal rights.

We will be led by Pastors Michael and Yulise Waters, who have been mentors to Transfiguration in recent years on matters of racial history. Four years ago they led a group of adult pilgrims from the Fig on a very similar trip, and upon our return, a parent in our church who has middle and high school-age kids wondered if we could repeat the experience, along with our youth. It was a brilliant idea, because...

Break The Fast Volunteers Needed

Following the Easter Vigil on April 8, we will celebrate with the return of the Break The Fast party. For newer members and those who forgot over the pandemic, this is a potluck supper to celebrate the arrival of Easter and the end or our Lenten Fast. Everyone is invited to stay after the Vigil, have a late dinner, and enjoy socializing with all your church friends. The food and beverages for this event are donated by generous parishioners rather than paid for by the Church. Sign up now to contribute to the success of this celebration. Sign up sheets will be available at the Wednesday Lenten series and also in the Gathering Space for the next five weeks. Since the Roper Hall Kitchen may not be complete by Easter, all food will need to be prepared and plated in advance. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, serving during the party and clean up following.

Message From The Endowment Fund

Lent is a time when we all work to strengthen our relationships with God, with our communities and with ourselves. It is a time to quiet our minds to consider new opportunities  for the months ahead.  On page 445 in the Book of Common Prayer, there is a passage which encourages Christian parents to “make prudent provision for the well-being of their families, and of all persons to make wills, while they are in health, arranging for the disposal of their temporal goods, not neglecting, if they are able, to leave bequests for religious and charitable uses.”

Is it time to make a will or update your current will to ensure the future of your family – and your church family? A bequest to the Endowment Fund, no matter how large or small, makes a difference in supporting the mission and ministries of Transfiguration now and in the future.

A special thank-you to those parishioners who attended the Endowment Fund breakfast last month. If you were unable to attend and pick up your packet on The Legacy Society and planned giving, we would be happy to mail one to you.

The Passion Experience for Families

Sunday, April 2, 2023 | 4:00pm to 6:00pm | Pizza Picnic

Kids and their families are invited to experience an amazing and thought-provoking Easter journey together. On this family mini retreat, you will experience the excitement surrounding Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem, the significance of the Last Supper, the darkness at Gethsemane, the confusion of Good Friday, the silence of Holy Saturday and the Joy of Easter. Families will walk together from station to station, experiencing this journey that provides opportunities for families to discuss their faith. We ask families attending to bring a picnic blanket that will be used at each station and for our pizza picnic at the close of our time together. Childcare provided. For questions, contact Allison Blalock.
