From the Minister

In a few short days, we’ll arrive at Palm Sunday. Our children will help us celebrate by distributing palms as we enter and lead us in our waving and singing as we remember Jesus’ own triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Last Sunday, in her beautiful reflection on Jesus’ anointing at the hands of Mary, Joy reminded us of how often our sacred stories rely on a kind of sacred memory on the part of those who hear them. An image here conjures burial rituals; a phrase there recalls a prophetic lesson of old. Click here to read more.

From the Bench
Our César Franck bicentennial continues this Sunday with his Pièce Héroïque, a work that is quite characteristic of the late 19th century, as it appears highly programmatic, in the sense that the music seems to convey some high drama/uncertainty, but it’s left to the listener to determine what that drama might be. You can’t promote peace if you don’t have it within yourself: Learning the Ways of Peace| Monday, April 25, 5-6 PM by Zoom.
In a powerful ritual, individuals identify which of the 8 “principles of peace” is their strength or struggle that day: courage, justice, love, unity, peace, hope, faith,  and forgiveness. This is the practice at the Lewis D. Brown Peace Institute every time they gather: staff members, teens, moms grieving children lost to violence. What if we did that, too?  Staff from our community partner will teach us how and why to develop peace within. Register here.
