Dear Families,

Shhhhhh! I am not really sending you this letter as I am on Sabbatical until April 8th. Truly, I wrote the newsletter mostly last week, but needed to add a few things that are coming up in March. Please make sure to read all of the entries below.

• We need folks to sign up to help Emily and Luke with Children's Church each Sunday
• Sign your child up for a job at the Children's Service March 23 and let Emily/Luke know if you can help. I have Jack Norton and Anne Elzemeyer already helping with readers and banners.
• If you can help with getting kids to color the Alleluia Banner on Shrove Tuesday, let Emily/Luke know
• If you can help kids hand out Collection Bags for the MAC Food Drive, after church during March, reach out to Wendy Silliman

And Wednesday nights will be quite different and we need your help.

First, a conversation with your kids about a reset of behavior on those nights. Snacks are nice to get and they need to eat them in the common area and clean up their trash. Being kind to all and not running through the area are important. The playground is open after 6:00 as long as you also clean up any tools, trikes, balls used before leaving.

Second, whatever they play with inside, they should clean up before going into choir or before leaving for dinner.

Third, the Art Room will be closed, but we will have coloring sheets and beads to make Friendship bracelets to give to our Refugee Ministry families. Board games should be encouraged or free play in the game room and K-1st grade room with parents checking in occasionally.

Discussing how lucky we are to have this space and things and each other on this night, how we have to care for it and each other as we do our own homes, and we want to always leave things better than when we came. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Tuesday, March 4

Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Pancake Tuesday...whatever you call it, it is the day we celebrate one more time before entering Lent. We use up the "fat" (pancakes:) ) before we simplify our lives during Lent. We burn the palms from last year's Palm Sunday (bring yours!) to use for the ashes on Ash Wednesday to  "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" . We bury our alleluias (our banner we make during dinner) and don't use them in our service until Easter when we use a traditional Easter greeting that expresses joy and praise for Jesus' resurrection - “He is risen, he is risen indeed, Alleluia!” .

Ash Wednesday Service

Wednesday, March 5th, 6:00

Join us for Ash Wednesday service which begins our journey in and through Lent. As a family, consider what you might take on and what you might give up this Lent. Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving are the three pillars of Lent: making a new practice of prayer with your kids at dinner or before they leave for school, fasting from technology in some form or fashion of something else that uses a lot of your time, a mason jar to save money for our Refugee Ministries families (maybe sacrificing your weekly ice cream, coffee, or Target purchases to add that money to the jar).

Spring Forward an hour means waking up earlier for church! So don't stress and let your kids come in their Pajamas that morning to Children's Church. They love this day and we have some fun with it.

It is time for our Spring Children's Service! On this Sunday, the children will serve and lead us as they continue to claim this faith community as their own.  They will share their wisdom, awe, prayer, and wonder with us.  Make sure to thank them for their servant leadership

Saturday, March 29th

We will have great food, live music and wonderful company, to be held at All Saints' to raise money for our Refugee Ministries families. Funds have been cut and they need our help to meet rent, grocery, and daily living expenses for 6 months.

(More details and the opportunity to purchase tickets will be forthcoming. For now, please do save the date!)

Let's do this work.

Let's be witnesses of God's love and invite others to do it with us.

Let's be evangelists of a different way, a way of truly loving our neighbors as ourselves.
