In the Shadow of the Hills

opens at Bennington Museum this Thanksgiving weekend...

Are you looking for a fun family outing over the holiday? Or perhaps you want to step into the art world to find the perfect gift for a special friend. Whatever your reasons, Bennington Museum is here for you!

On Friday, November 25, Bennington Museum is pleased to open the annual winter exhibition and Closed-Bid Auction, In the Shadow of the Hills, which will foreshadow Haunted Vermont, the historically based summer/fall 2023 exhibition.

The 25+ regional contemporary artists will respond to historical tales of monsters, ghosts, missing persons and the occult, exploring the deep, dark corners of our collective and personal psyches and encounters with the mysterious and unknown.

An Artists' Reception

Join us on Tuesday, November 22nd from 5pm to 7pm to meet the talented artists, preview the work that will be on display, and if you are moved to do so, purchase the piece you want at a special BUY IT NOW price. You must join us in-person to take advantage of this opportunity which will be available for this night only.

Admission to this event is free of charge.

Light refreshments will be served.

How the Auction Works

The Closed-Bid Auction of exhibited artwork will open at the Museum and online at 10am on November 25 and close at 4pm on December 19. Bidding will take place online and may be done at home, on your phone, or with the assistance of our front of house staff. You may also write in paper bids when you visit the Museum, if you prefer. In Closed-Bid auctions you do not see what others have bid, but instead bid the maximum amount that you would like to pay for that piece.

After the bidding closes (and prior to the Christmas holidays), the person with the highest bid for each work of art will be declared the winner and be contacted for payment and to arrange a pick-up time. In the event of a tie the bid placed first will be the winner. To avoid a tie, we urge people to bid an odd amount such as $501.50 rather than $500.00.

Winning bids placed on items in this auction benefit both the Museum and the artists. Thank you for your support!

Members can visit this exhibit and many others free of charge during our open hours, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 10am-4pm.
