New Tulane PaCE Learning Management System Launches!

The Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center is thrilled to announce its new Tulane PaCE Learning Management System (LMS). The new LMS was successfully launched on July 1, 2022 and offers a streamlined experience for every user.

One of the most exciting features of the new LMS is that it is fully responsive which allows users to access courses on any connected device from anywhere. Users can enjoy the freedom to learn on their schedule.

Farewell to R6-SCPHTC Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. Alyssa Lederer

Dr. Alyssa Lederer

It is regret that Region 6 says goodbye to Dr. Alyssa Lederer, who has been a Co-Principal Investigator and key member of the Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center and Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Alyssa has a new opportunity at Indiana University's School of Public Health in Bloomington. Dr. Lederer served as a leader for Region 6 and has spearheaded major projects developing and analyzing a comprehensive needs assessment for the region.

We thank Dr. Lederer for her leadership and service and send our best wishes for continued success in Indiana. We will miss her.

Albuquerque Area Southwest Tribal Epidemiology Center (AASTEC) Seeks Fall Interns

The Albuquerque Area Southwest Tribal Epidemiology Center (AASTEC) is seeking eligible American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) undergraduate and graduate student applicants for a remote, paid internship (12 to 20 hours per week) this Fall.

This opportunity is open to AI/AN students enrolled in a public health, health education, or other allied field degree program at an accredited university. First-time applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation, a current CV/resume, and up-to-date transcripts. Undergraduate applicants must have completed a full year of college coursework.

The deadline to apply for the internship is 5 p.m. MDT on August 2, 2022.

Introduction to Texas

Department of State Health Services Institutional Review Board

Course Description:

The goal of this course is to provide a learning opportunity for Texas Department of State Health Services Institutional Review Board investigators and participants. This course is designed to provide investigators and participants with core information about the Texas DSHS IRB. It will describe the responsibility, purpose, and composition of the Texas DSHSIRB, examine the three functions of the Texas DSHS IRB, distinguish between Human Subjects Research and Public Health Practice, review each step in the Texas DSHS IRB process, and provide an overview of DSHS IRB policies.

Louisiana Hurricane Response Hub

The Louisiana Hurricane Response Hub (LaHRH) curriculum was developed by the Louisiana Office of Public Health to provide general guidance and training to the public health workforce, response workers, volunteers, and community members who face hazards that arise after hurricanes and floods occur in Louisiana. The courses will increase awareness, understanding, and preparedness of events and hazards associated with hurricanes and floods in Louisiana communities.

The 4 courses in this curriculum cover topics related to general safety and health considerations, heat-related illness, private water wells, and mold exposure. Local resources related to Louisiana hurricane preparedness and recovery are provided to strengthen community awareness and resilience.
