FEATURED EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE

2023 AMEE IN GLASGOW

DOM faculty Calvin Chou, Peter Chin-Hong, John Davis, Lynnea Mills, Arianne Teherani, Sam Brondfield, Christy Boscardin, Karen Hauer, and Anna Chang (pictured above).

The Association of Medical Educators of Europe (AMEE) annual meeting was in Glasgow, Scotland in August. This conference offers conversations with international medical education colleagues about innovations, theory, and studies in medical education pertinent to all learner levels. We learned about:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Health Professions Education at a symposium that discussed opportunities, concerns, and ideas about how to realize AI's full potential. Check out this article by Drs. Christy Boscardin, Karen Hauer, and colleagues.

A live recording of the PAPERs Podcast (a great way to stay up-to-date on key medical education articles) featured 2 articles by UCSF DOM authors Drs. Arianne Teherani, Anna Chang, and Karen Hauer discussing learner identity safety and institutional leaders’ perspectives on investing in educators. Check it out here!

Several colleagues from DOM attended AMEE this year and presented workshops, posters, symposia, and research presentations. Lynnea Mills and Calvin Chou on remediation, Karen Hauer and Pat O’Sullivan on advancing anti-oppression and inclusion, Sam Brondfield on cognitive load theory applied to consult services, Anna Chang on interprofessional education. Bridget O’Brien contributed to a workshop on how to make educational innovations scholarly and served as the network lead for the research paper presentations.
