Sydney’s Favorites Devotional: Week 1
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” ~ Psalm 8:1 (ESV)

I can’t read this verse, this chapter in Psalm without hearing the tune by Keith Green in my head. When I was growing up in the 70s and 80s Christian music was elevated to higher heights with the likes of Barry McGuire, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Reba Rambo, and Keith Green, to name a few.

My own relationship with Jesus was incredibly influenced by the music that was being created at the time. The doors of my heart opened even wider through the melodies, words, and stories being shared by these creatives. I remember times my heart would soar just listening and singing along. Now I recognize it as the Holy Spirit ministering to my heart.

“O Lord, our Lord. How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!” ~ Psalm 8:1 (NAS)

I love the descriptors that David uses.

Majestic ~ God is King over all creation. His name speaks majesty throughout the earth. Just look around, and think of the places you have been that took your breath away. Yosemite is a place that does that for me. Our God made that… for us to enjoy!

God has displayed His splendor, grandeur, and glory above the heavens. I don’t think this earth can hold all the glory that is yet to be revealed. He’s given us a taste by creating a world for us to live and revel in. He meets our needs with the things He has included in this creation we call earth, as well as filling our world with incredible beauty. And even still He is above all that we can take in when we look around at this great big world with all its wonder.

His creation is just one of the ways He has reached out to us to show us who He is, His great love for us, and His desire to have a relationship with us.
O Lord, our Lord how majestic is Your name in all the earth... Indeed!

Take a moment to thank Him for creating your favorite spot of wonder.

Give a listen to the song originally released in 1982 (I was sixteen):

I’d love to hear what your favorite place of wonder is.
