WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Lake County knows that we need a public transportation system to connect people to each other, stores and resources, and the outdoors. We are hoping to have a system in place in the next 18 months, but need your help to make sure we create a system that works best for our community. Your answers to this survey will help us understand your travel needs, whether you experience barriers accessing Summit Stage, and whether you feel improved bus service could be a good resource for you.

Initial bus service is planned to connect Leadville and the surrounding neighborhoods. In future years it is possible bus service could be expanded to other parts of Lake County. You may also fill this survey out online at: https://bit.ly/LeadvilleBusSurvey

Please complete the short survey and if you have any questions you can email them to Kayla Marcella at kmarcella@co.lake.co.us

COLORADO MOUNTAIN COLLEGE

This month, we are spotlighting Colorado Mountain College, a long standing member of the EDC and an asset to Leadville and Lake County. We interviewed Ben Cairns, Vice President and Campus Dean, about CMC's membership with the EDC.

How long have you been a member of the LLCEDC?

I am actually not sure. I think CMC has been a part of the EDC since the beginning.

Why did your organization or business join the LLCEDC?

CMC joined for many reasons including wanting to serve our community and making sure our graduates are prepared to be a part of our local workforce. As a college we want to be a part of the key spaces for thoughtful problem solving in our community and the EDC does this. Lastly, due to the CMC model we serve, our community and our involvement on the EDC keeps us in the loop of community needs and concerns.

What is your favorite part of being an LLCEDC member?

Working with a great group of folks to help define and solve the key challenges facing Leadville and Lake County. Being able to listen to what is going on and think about what might be CMC's role in helping solve these challenges.

How do you define organizational success?

When an organization is able to meet and achieve its mission and vision. This happens when resources, time and human capitol are focused towards that mission and vision. Also, it is key that the mission and vision align with the activities and are clearly designed and put in practice through the activities of the organization.

What advice would you give for anyone considering a membership with the LLCEDC?

Its a great way to be a part of a group looking to solve problems in our community and to improve the economic outlook for everyone in Lake County.

What do you think the LLCEDC could do better?

I think continuing to get clear on what we can do vs. what other organizations roles might be as we address challenges. What does the EDC do, the county, the city, etc... in addressing the key challenges of our current reality.

Success Isn’t Binary

A lot of people I have talked with assume that success is binary, which means everything that isn’t success must be failure. But the opposite of success isn’t failure. Or, it doesn’t have to be. And, that’s a distinction that can make all the difference. Unfortunately, it’s one that many people never learn to make...read more HERE
