A Message from The Rev. Tina Rathbone

Today offers us another chance to express our hope – and to counter our fears - for our country. How should we live together? Who are we? And who might we one day become? These are all questions we answer, each in our own way, as we fill out our ballots. We voice our opinions not only about those we hope will represent us both at the state and the federal level, but also about ballot questions ask – among other things – whether our state should impose an additional 4% tax on annual incomes over a million dollars, and whether people without a current path to citizenship will be allowed to gain access to legal drivers’ licenses – a move that many believe would lead to more drivers getting insurance, and receiving the training needed to pass a road test. It’s crucial – this year as always – that we make true through our actions the idea that every vote is equal and that every vote counts. So go – express your dreams, and your hopes, and vote…. and then consider joining me in prayer:

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers

and privileges: Guide the people of the United States

in this election; that, by faithful administration and wise laws,

the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your

purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please come join us for this six week

GIDEON'S GARDEN

What's new at the Garden? While we have less and less to harvest everyday, we have plenty to get done before winter. This last week we finally finished clearing the field of plastic, stakes, and plant debris (soon to be compost) so while we don't have anything in the field, that doesn't mean we're finished with pantry deliveries! Through Berkshire Bounty, Taft, and other farms, we're able to continue delivering gleaned produce to all of our pantries.

We also have also renovated our chicken house into a state-of-the-art coop that frees up some much needed storage space and that will make the chickens more comfortable during the winter months.

Last but most exciting, we have our new propagation house funded by a grant.    Annalise

Babies are placed in the Home when their mother has died and they cannot be cared for at home.

It costs about $1,500 to support a baby over the time needed for the child to grow old enough to return to their home. Many years ago we at Grace decided to support babies at the Mampong Babies Home in Ghana

at the rate of $1,500 per year. Your donations help us reach that goal each year. You can bring money or checks to church on Sundays and place in the jar near the Welcome Table or send a check to:

Imprinted: Illustrating Race

We have many riches in our communities! This week's reading was on Mission, Vocation, and Gifts. We undertook a Spiritual Gifts inventory to uncover the gifts we each have and which are resident in the EfM seminar. Each person was asked to name their top four as a result of completing the survey. Shown in the chart are the results for this EfM group on November 1.  Our exercise resulted in a good discussion and yielded the following collect, in which we named the specific gifts that were the subject of our reflection.

Blessed are you, O Lord God, whose deep gladness delights in our becoming.

You have given us the gifts of simplicity, mercy, discernment, creative communication, humor, and helping.

Enable us to spread these gifts in response to the world’s deep hunger

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

AMEN

The Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost

Luke 21:5-19

When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, Jesus said, "As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down."

They asked him, "Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?" And he said, "Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, `I am he!' and, `The time is near!' Do not go after them.

"When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven.

"But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls."

Hail to the Lord's Anointed

Hail To The Lord’s Anointed;

Great David’s Greater Son!

Hail, In The Time Appointed,

His Reign On Earth Begun!

He Comes To Break Oppression,

To Set The Captive Free,

To Take Away Transgression,

And Rule In Equity.

He Comes, With Succour Speedy,

To Those Who Suffer Wrong;

To Help The Poor And Needy,

And Bid The Weak Be Strong:

To Give Them Songs For Sighing,

Their Darkness Turn To Light,

Whose Souls, Condemned And Dying,

Were Precious In His Sight.

He Shall Come Down Like Showers

Upon The Fruitful Earth:

Love Joy And Hope Like Flowers,

Spring In His Path To Birth:

Before Him, On The Mountains,

Shall Peace The Herald Go;

And Righteousness In Fountains,

From Hill To Valley Flow.

Kings Shall Fall Down Before Him,

And Gold And Incense Bring;

All Nations Shall Adore Him,

His Praise All People Sing;

For Him Shall Prayer Unceasing

And Daily Vows Ascend;

His Kingdom Still Increasing,

A Kingdom Without End.

O’er Every Foe Victorious,

He On His Throne Shall Rest;

From Age To Age More Glorious,

All-Blessing And All-Blest.

The Tide Of Time Shall Never

His Covenant Remove;

His Name Shall Stand For Ever,

His Changeless Name Of Love.

WHAT ARE YOU
GRATEFUL FOR?
In this time of fear and anxiety, it can be easy to miss the daily blessings that are right in front of us. Being grateful is not just for good times. Being grateful is even more important when fear sets a place at your table and heartbreak seems to be in your every breath. Because by being grateful we become aware of all the ways God is working in us. Being grateful is a part of our healing and our deliverance. Being grateful is where our best selves reside.
