SAR Installs 2023 Leadership;
Celebrates Year-end
with Holiday Gathering
Twenty-five year Broker-member Tom Hormel was installed as the association's 112th president, this week, at the association's Installation Brunch and Holiday Gathering at CenterPlace in Spokane Valley (pictured above).

In his first speech to members as president, Hormel spoke of kindness: "My main message today is kindness because I think that that got lost during COVID. My mantra for the year after COVID was COVID killed kindness because it just seemed that way. Everybody was irritated, everybody was on edge. We need to bring that (kindness) back," Hormel said.

See Tom Hormel's inaugural address here - the video runs about 10-minutes.
Eric Etzel was recognized and thanked for his service, this year, as the association's 2022 president.

Etzel led many important board discussions over the past year, including hiring a new CEO, but points to association engagement around Frame your Future - a Spokane Homebuilders initiative to encourage more young people to enter the building trades - as one of the proudest accomplishments of the board during his term as chair.

SAR CEO Tiffany Claxton-Standley presented Eric with the President's Pen and plaque (pictured).

Leadership Retreat
Convenes in Exact Room
where Association was Founded
The Hall of the Doges (pictured) at the Davenport Hotel served, once again, as an important place in the history of the Spokane Association of REALTORS®, this week.

It was in this room that the association was founded as the Spokane Realty Association on September 1st, 1911.

There were 497 "real estate dealers" in Spokane at the time.
The 2023 Board of Directors and all candidates, WCR and YPN Presidents, new Committee Chairs and all SAR Staff convened at the Davenport Hotel for a leadership retreat, led by Maurice Hampton.
Hampton is a Chicago REALTOR®, named REALTOR® of the Year by the Chicago Association of REALTORS® in 2021.

Legal Hotline:
Escrow and Brokerage
Industry Confusion
Annie Fitzsimmons (WR's Legal Hotline lawyer) addresses confusion between the escrow industry, and the brokerage industry related to the settlement statement.

The practice of escrow companies delivering both buyers and sellers transaction columns has changed to reflect new privacy laws, and DOL no longer requires escrow companies to provide a settlement statement with both columns.
