A Message from our VP of Student Life and Mission

Dear Carondelet Community,

Fall has truly arrived as we set our clocks back an hour this weekend and enjoy the cooling temperatures. There are only two more weeks until Thanksgiving break, and students are busy with class projects, athletics, activities, and holiday planning. November is also Native American Heritage Month. This month through school announcements, prayers, social media, and a lunchtime activity or two, students will have the opportunity to learn about the rich history of the Indigenous people of California and ways to learn more.

The final two sophomore Corazon retreats are this Wednesday and Thursday. Sophomores who went on the retreat this past week enjoyed bonding with classmates, nurturing their relationships with God, others, and themselves, developing their ideas about friendship, and connecting with nature in the beautiful East Bay Regional Parks.

The Ven a Ver Service Immersions also begin this month with our first Ven a Ver Fruits of Labor trip to Salinas for juniors and senior students. On this trip, “Students will learn about the issues farmworkers face locally and globally. We will explore themes such as care for creation, migration, and sustainable farming. We hope this encounter will enhance our understanding of the Catholic Social Teaching concepts of Human Dignity, Solidarity, and the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers.” Freshmen and sophomores will get a chance to go on this transformative service immersion in April. If this is something that your daughter would like to attend, look for information on how to apply early in the spring semester.

We also have Friday, November 11th off in observance of Veterans Day. We have several alumnae who have served or currently serve in the United States Armed Forces, as well as many family and friends of Carondelet who are or have proudly served our country. We hold all those who serve in prayer for their safety and care.

Blessings,

Jennifer Reinwald

Vice Principal of Student Life and Mission

Cannon Wellness Center

Tour the new Cannon Wellness Center

Construction for the Cannon Wellness Center is nearing completion and we would like to invite you to an exclusive preview of the new wellness spaces.

  • You will enjoy seeing the rooms come to life as our Wellness team begins to organize furniture and materials in the spaces. Tours will be held November 8, 9, and 10 at 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. We will meet at the entrance to the Convent. Please sign up for your exclusive tour here.
  • As we near the completion of phase 1 of the Cannon Wellness Center, we will plan for phases 2 and 3 if we reach our fundraising goal. Thus far we have raised $340,000 of our $750,000 goal.
  • Phase 2 includes design, landscaping, and materials for the gratitude garden, and large, framed glass doors for the center. Phase 3 includes enhancements to our wellness curriculum including technology, materials, supplies, speakers, and much more.

Reminders + Requests

Visions of Christmas Help Needed

Please SHOP our online registries and sign up to STOCK our Instant Wine & Spirits Cellars to contribute to the success of Visions for our students!

Monday X-Block

This X-Block will double as a special community block for sophomore students. College and Career will have their Sophomore Start-Up where they will work with the sophomores to help them dip their toes into the college application process. This is not optional and attendance will be taken.

Uniform Reminders

As the cold weather sets in, we want to remind you that solid color tights and leggings are allowed under the Mills uniform skirt. The top, outer layer of clothing must be Carondelet or DLS branded. Reminder too that slippers are not allowed even if they are close-toed and/or have backs on them. Our uniform guidelines specifically state "no slippers allowed." We encourage students to layer up since the weather is getting colder.

Attendance Reminders

For any absence, tardy, or early out, please contact the Attendance Office before 10:00 AM. We understand that last-minute appointments or emergencies do occur, however, early communication is the best way to ensure that we can dismiss your student on time.

We are seeing a rise in cold and flu-like symptoms on campus. If your student is feeling unwell, please keep them home and report their absence to the Attendance Office. Masks are optional for all students and are available in the Main Office.

Model United Nations Club

UC Berkeley Delegate Workshop

On October 15th, Carondelet students attended the in-person UC Berkeley Model United Nations Delegate Workshop. This workshop attracts high school students from all parts of Northern California to learn how to participate in Model United Nations conferences. These conferences are simulations of the actual United Nations when students step into the shoes of ambassadors from member states to resolve global issues through debate and diplomacy. Carondelet students spent the day practicing skills such as public speaking and collaborative problem-solving while meeting other motivated high school students from across the state.

Carondelet is planning to attend Model United Nations conferences during the 22-23 year which include:

  • Stanford MUN (Nov. 11-13)
  • Harvard Model Congress (Jan. 13-15, 2023)
  • UC Berkeley MUN (March 3-5, 2023)

If you have any questions about participating in Model United Nations, please email our MUN Club Moderator, Phil Miller.
