Upcoming Service

Be Our Guest

Rev. Jaimie Dingus

10:45 a.m., Sunday, November 12, 2023

At UUCH, we are grateful for the work of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, an organization that believes the transformational solutions we need come from communities most directly impacted by injustice. Join us for this year’s Guest at Your Table service to learn what UUSC partners are doing to address immediate injustices – as well as the collective liberation they envision for the future.

Choir News

On Sunday, the UUCH Choir is singing I Am Willing, by Holly Near. This anthem has an awesome message:

I am open and I am willing,

For to be hopeless would seem so strange.

It dishonors those who go before us,

So lift me up to the light of change.

We hope you will join us this Sunday to hear this anthem, featuring Haley Clark, Tim Miller, and Ana Delacey as soloists.

Choir rehearsal this week is after coffer hour, at 12:10.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

UUCH Mission and Vision Workshops

Dear UUCH,

When I candidated to become your minister, we talked about how this congregation needed to reflect on and rewrite or renew our Mission and Vision Statements. (https://uuch.org/about-us/our-mission-and-vision/) As we start year 4 together, after the time of pandemic lock down, enormous shifts in staffing and the work of regathering as a multiplatform community, it is finally time to focus on Mission and Vision!

Here is how the process will go:

This Sunday is the virtual workshop after church. A reminder that there is no need to attend more than one, and they will give us time to learn, reflect, talk in small groups and offer feedback.

Once we have done that information gathering, a small group of leaders will do the writing and wordsmithing work in order to create a solid draft.

Then we will wrestle with our draft all spring. We will reflect on it in worship, community life, and in more formal feedback sessions.

At the end of this good work, a final proposal will be brought to the congregation to be approved at the Congregational Meeting in June.

I will be there to answer questions along the way, but for now, please mark your calendars and plan to attend one of the 4 Mission Vision Workshops this fall.

Sunday, November 12th, 12:30-2pm ONLINE

Sunday, November 19th, 12:30-2pm

If you can please RSVP here, but either way I hope you attend one of these sessions!

CYRE News

Pre-K – 5th Grade and YoUUth

For the month of November, our children and YoUUth will focus on the theme of The Gift of Generosity. Our UU faith calls us to connect with others and generosity is a vehicle we can use. In other words, being generous helps moves us from isolation (“I am alone”) to community (“I belong.”) By being generous we receive and give the gift of connection.

**Donation Request**

This year we would like to have a Christrmas tree for our CYRE families to decorate in the Fellowship Hall. If anyone happens to have an artificial tree, lights, or decorations that need a new home, please contact Kristen at dre@uuch.org.

UUCH ABCs Annual Auction Time!

It's as easy as ABC! It’s ABC Auction Party time– Nov 11! Let’s raise funds for our church and have fun at the same time!

  • Bring your donation item to the church starting Sunday November 5 and ending Saturday November 11 at 10:00 a.m.

  • Seek donations from your favorite local business. Just show them our letter available here. Hard copy will also be available at the church.

  • Next: Party prep! Bring hearty snacks to share. Help with setting up or tearing down. Many hands make light work. If you are willing to assist please sign up here or email service.auction@uuch.org

  • Final step: Bidding! This will be a live auction event. Bidding must be bid in-person, by proxy, or by Zoom chat during the event. Pre-event bidding is available for "Silent" auction items up until the day before the event. Raffle tickets may also be purchased online before the event. However, final bids for all items will be taken by the auction team at the event. Those who wish to bid but cannot attend in person are encouraged to use a proxy bidder or attend via Zoom.

In summary, join us on Nov 11 at 5:30 p.m. at UUCH for a lively evening of music, food, fellowship and friendly bidding to raise money for our beloved community.

ARE YOU READY TO BECOME A MEMBER?

If you’ve been attending UUCH long enough to know that this church community feels like your spiritual home, you may be ready to take the next step and become a member of this congregation.

Rev. Jaimie soon plans to welcome new members as they “sign the book” and officially join our church. If you are ready to become a member or would like to find out more about the process, please contact Pam Korb at membership@uuch.org.

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP

Because we are a democratic community, members are collectively vested with responsibility for the congregation. Members may vote at all congregational meetings, be elected to the governing Board, be appointed as committee chairs, and participate in all activities of the congregation.

Because we are a covenanted congregation, members have certain responsibilities to the congregation and to each other. These responsibilities are best fulfilled by:

  • Regular attendance at worship
  • Voting at congregational meetings
  • Making financial contributions
  • Contributing time and talent
  • Spiritual growth and development

Alabama Hispanic Association Dinner and Christmas Party

The 9th annual Alabama Hispanic Association (AHA) dinner and Christmas party is scheduled for December 16th! This is an all-church event and we need your help to make this a success!

You can get involved in 3 ways:

1)     Make a financial donation for teen gifts: We will be sharing the plate for the AHA party during the Sunday services on November 12, 19, & 26 and December 9th to collect donations to cover the cost of presents for about 30 teenagers. All donations will go to the presents. Please note on checks that it is for the AHA or Hispanic Christmas Party.

In addition to sharing the plate, online donations are also being accepted now through December 9th. You can donate online by following these steps:

  • Click this link: https://engage.suran.com/uuahuntsville
  • Sign in to your Engage account
  • Select “New Gift” from the menu in the upper right corner.
  • Enter your gift amount in the “AL Hispanic Assoc Christmas Gifts” line
  • Select “Continue” and check out like normal

Another option for donating online is to scan the QR code in the weekly Sunday Order of Service.

2)     Donate a stuffed animal for children: We are collecting stuffed animals to be given out to the children at the party. You can bring new or like-new stuffed animals to church and put them in the box in the Fellowship Hall.

3)     Donate food and/or your time: We need help with food for the dinner, setup, clean up, decorating, and working the dinner, which is fun and rewarding. A sign-up sheet in the fellowship hall and a newsletter signup genius will be posted for the event soon.

Please contact social.justice@uuch.org if you have any questions.
