January Mayor's Recap

Dear Neighbor,

I am honored to serve as Mayor of Morris Township this year. For those who may not know me, I am a lifelong resident of the Township and joined the Township Committee in 2019. I also serve our community through our Fire Department, where I have been a Volunteer Firefighter for over twelve years. Having grown up here, I have come to believe strongly in doing everything we can to ensure future generations have the same opportunities I was afforded when growing up in the town I have come to know and love.

Each month, I will be sending an update on what’s happening in Morris Township and providing a recap of our monthly meetings. If you have not done so already, I invite you to sign up for our Municipal Messenger email service to receive this monthly newsletter, as well as other important updates from the Township.

This month, the Township Committee held its annual Reorganization Meeting, where new members of our governing body were sworn in and professional and volunteer appointments were made for the coming year. We welcomed Tara Olivo-Moore to our governing body, who has now started her first term. You can watch the video recording of the Reorganization, which included an Invocation by Sister Merris Larkin of Assumption School, oaths of office administered by Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, and a benediction by Hillside Hose Company Chaplain, Thomas Gaylord.

Following the Committee’s reorganization, we held our first regular monthly meeting of the year on Wednesday, January 19th. During this meeting, the Committee passed a proclamation recognizing Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, in addition to recognizing our Board of Education members as part of School Board Recognition Month. Following these presentations, the Committee continued its focus on our annual appointment process of professionals and volunteers. You can view the full agenda linked below and watch the recording here.

I look forward to serving you as Mayor in 2022. Please continue reading below for other helpful information impacting our town. If I can ever be of service, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the members of your governing body.

Sincerely,

Mark

Earlier this month, work on our Electric Vehicle (EV) charging initiative broke ground. Construction crews began building new parking spaces in our Municipal Building Parking Lot for our future fleet of municipal EVs to charge up. This installation is the first of two happening this year. The second location will be dedicated to public use at our recreational complex at Streeter.
