In this BobBlast I am working on a light-filled vase of flowers - and tapping into the lighter side of Bob! My approach is to stay quiet and lightly paint with watered-down Holbein Artist Acrylic Paint - using watercolor techniques with these heavy body acrylics. Holbein Artist Acrylics are a full body, heavy-pigmented load, which means it can be watered way down without the pigment breaking up. The Holbein line of acrylic paints are all compatible - they also have fluid acrylics and acrylic inks that do practically the same thing as the heavy body paint.
This demo is about a light touch with lots of water! My concept is a vase of flowers. Composition is off-balance.
My materials for this Demo…
•300 lb Fabriano Artistico HP, half-sheet
•Holbein Artist Acrylic Paint, colors:
Pyrrole Red Light
Luminous Opera
Primary Magenta
Hansa Yellow
Middle Green
Compose Blue #2
Ultramarine Deep
Lamp Black
Titanium White
•Large, soft brushes, like Isabey Petit Gris or Cheap Joe’s Pseudo Sable
My technique is to start wet, loose, using so much water that it almost paints itself. I build the paints lightly (almost transparent). To remain “light” I wet and soften some edges that merge into the white, un-gessoed paper. My goal is to remain true to the original concept, and not fall into what I normally do - more color and more splashing. My commitment for this painting is to keep it light.
Imagine that… Me - with this much self-control! Follow the light!
