Good evening GRES families,
Today marks the end of second quarter...that sure went by fast! Grades go live in Home Access Center at 5:00pm on 1/31/22. There are instructions below on how to log in to HAC as well as how to set notifications based on certain attendance and/or grading criteria. Sixth grade students and families are busy selecting classes for next year at the middle school. The ACCESS testing window opens next week, so eligible students will be pulled for that. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Mahendra. We have some fun planned this quarter including an author visit, pajama read aloud, Valentine's Day celebrations on 2/14, and the kickoff of our Fox Clubs.
Regarding Valentine's Day celebrations: Students may bring in valentines as long as they are non-food. They are required to be quarantined for 48 hours prior to handing them out (the same guidelines as any birthday items and from last year). Taking items that have been handled/touched in students' homes and directly placing them in other students homes...is not a covid mitigating strategy. Any student who wishes to 'hand/pass out' Valentine's must bring them to school in a bag no later than Friday 2/11/21.
Since we are half way through the year, it seems fitting to provide some reminders. All parents need to register for a payment portal online, if they have not yet done so. This portal is where all school fees are paid (registration fees, intramural fees, fied trips, school lunches, etc...). Fees are no longer paid through the Home Access Center. To register: Go to the Y115.org web page. On the right, under the magnifying glass, you will see "Payment Portal." This is where you can register if you have not already done so. Parents who signed their students up for intramurals and have not yet paid, will need to re-register them through the payment portal by choosing K-6, then Grande Reserve Elementary School, and simply completing the requested information.
Please know our mitigating efforts are still in place and our custodial team is working hard. Teachers and staff are doing their best to keep students 3 feet or more apart and reminding children to wear their mask appropriately. See the Nurse's Notes below for a status on the update to exclusion guidance.
In case you missed the paper order form that came home, order your child(ren)'s yearbook here:

Shout outs:
For Mrs. Beavers and Ms. Garbe: "I greatly appreciate the communication between this wonderful fourth grade team to make learning at home go seamlessly while my son was on quarantine. My emails were answered almost immediately if I had questions, which prevented frustration for both my son and I. Thank you."
"Mrs. Walton goes above and beyond every time I have needed to express a concern in regards to our son. She is very quick to respond and helps ease my worries. I also can't believe how much my son has been learning in just a little bit of time being in her class. Such a wonderful teacher to begin our many school years with. My family wanted to give a shout out for how much we appreciate Mrs. Walton!"
Have a wonderful weekend,
Michele Breyne

Community Mentors for Newcomer Families
As our district grows and becomes more diverse, Yorkville 115 has seen an increase in its newcomer students and families. Newcomers are students who were born outside of the United States and its territories and are in their first three years in an American school. Y115 recognizes that not only do these students and families need support as they acclimate to our school system, but they may need additional support in our community as well. To this end, the Office of Bilingual and EL Services is establishing two grant-funded Community Mentor positions available for the remainder of the 2021 school year and beyond (as allowed by the grant). The Community Mentor will serve as a point of contact and liaison for newcomer families with school district events and procedures (registration, communications, parent meetings, etc.) and within the community. Community Mentors will receive as compensation a stipend as mutually agreed upon by both the candidate and the district.
If you are interested in being a Community Mentor, please review the position description HERE, and contact Mike Camp, Coordinator for Bilingual and EL Services, with any questions you may have.

It's time for a fundraiser...students can sell bundt cakes from now until 2/1; forms need to be turned in at school (teacher or office) by 2/4. We will be coordinating a drive-thru pickup in February at GRES...stay tuned for details! :)

The end of second quarter is right around the corner, 1/21/22. Grades will go live shortly after in the Home Access Center. In an effort to be prepared, instructions to login are below in a few different formats. Please know if you struggle to get into HAC, we are happy to help by calling the office at 630-553-5513.
How to log in to the Home Access Center
If you do not currently use the Home Access Center (HAC) or are a new family, you can sign up with these directions. Also note that each parent/guardian may create his or her own login.
-
Open Home Access Center at https://hac2.y115.org/HomeAccess.
- Click the link at the bottom of the box that reads "Click Here to Register for HAC."
- Fill out the form with your information (your information as the parent, not your child's information).
- At the top of the next form, create a username.
- You will then be asked to create two security questions (and answers). These will be used if you ever need to reset your password. (Example questions: What was my high school? or Where was I born?)
- You will receive a message stating that an email has been sent to you. Please check your email for the link to set your password.
- Open the link in your email and answer the two security questions that you created.
- Choose a password. Your password must be 8-20 characters long.
- You will then enter the Home Access Center. You may use this username and password every time you return to the HAC.
Basic Troubleshooting
Why does nothing happen when I click a link? Make sure that you have set your browser to always allow pop-ups from this site.
What happens if I forget my login information? Contact your child's school.
Finding a Username or Resetting a Password
-
Open Home Access Center at https://hac2.y115.org/HomeAccess
- Click the link at the bottom of the box that reads "Forgot my Username or Password."
- If you have forgotten your password, enter your username. If you have forgotten your username, enter your email address.
- Follow the steps similar to the steps described above in order to gain access to your username and/or to reset your password.
HAC View with Multiple Children in the District
If you only have one child in the district, his/her summary page will appear. If you have multiple children in the district, a list of all of them will appear. Click on the name of the child you wish to view. If you do not see all of your children listed when you login to Home Access Center, please contact the school of the child who is not listed, and the school personnel will adjust the information in the system to correct the problem. To view a different child, click on the "My Students" link. This will take you to the list of your children for viewing.

Please be patient when you contacting the nurse and are awaiting a response. Nurse Rachel is working diligently to support the students in the building and also communicate with parents and provide guidance as it relates to COVID-19 procedures.
The isolation and quarantine period for students sick and/or diagnosed with COVID-19 or considered a close contact has been reduced to five days for most individuals. It is highly recommended that any student experiencing COVID related symptoms be tested for COVID.
As a result of recent updates, an adult is now considered fully vaccinated if they have received a booster after an appropriate period of time (depending on which vaccine was administered) following the administration of the vaccine.
Please know, it is our goal to reduce every student's time away from school and bring them back as soon as it is safe!

|
Boys Basketball Intramurals start in February. If you signed up your child, information should be coming home in the next two weeks. Our coaches are Mr. Groth and Mr. Marek.
Secretaries are reaching out to families to collect any outstanding payments.
|
|
Please be courteous of others in the parent drop-off or pick-up line. Please do not cut in line; progress through the neighborhood and join the line at the end.
Masks are to be worn entirely covering students' noses and mouths while on the bus and while in the building! Not doing so creates a risk for others in being excluded from school.

Do these belong to you? your son? your daughter?
Stop and pick them up in the lost and found by the Cafeteria.
