Sunapee Happenings

March pretended to be spring… teasing us with warm sunshine filled days and melting snow and ice cascading off the rooftops… and tho we knew better (after all, this is New England) hope springs eternal and we were shocked when suddenly  snowfall was being measured by the foot once again.  Skiers were delighted with the unexpected powder, while the clever and young at heart took advantage of the opportunity to practice their snow sculpting skills one more time…  much to the delight and amusement of all passersby!

A vacationing couple celebrates their anniversary at a Greek restaurant in Palm Springs—but will the marriage survive the service? As a needy waiter insinuates his way into their meal—and their lives—the couple examines their past and their future together. Playwright Wendy MacLeod brings us a tender comedy that delves deeply into what we hunger for. Purchase Tickets

Film at the HOP: “Living"

Adapted by Nobel prize-winning novelist Kazuo Ishiguro and based on Akira Kurosawa's 1952 masterpiece, Ikiru, Living tells the story of a British public works bureaucrat who receives a terminal diagnosis. With the thread of his life cut short, he explores strands heretofore unexperienced. Nominated for Best Lead Actor at the 2023 Academy Awards, Billy Nighy delivers a soulful, inward performance as a man with nothing to lose by doing the right thing.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Tonight at 5: The Literary Arts Guild of the Center For the Arts announces the publication of poetry about Farming in New Hampshire.

New London--The Literary Arts Guild of the Center for the Arts is pleased to announce publication of the fifth book in its Visual Verse series, entitled, Rooted in New Hampshire: Farming the Lake Sunapee Region. The poems in this volume are inspired by photographs from nine regional farms. In partnership with Adventures in Learning, a rollout event for the book to which the public is invited will take place on Wednesday March 29, 2023, at 5 p.m. at Lethbridge Lodge, Colby-Sawyer College, New London, NH.

Rooted In New Hampshire is a tribute to the over 4000 farms averaging about 100 acres each whose open lands still help to preserve much of New Hampshire’s rural character. In addition, the book attests to the importance of area farms in providing our communities with a high-quality array of fresh foods, abundant wildlife habitats, continuation of our distinct cultural heritage, and significant contributions to our state’s economy.  Learn More
