Loisaida Center is pleased to bring the second cycle of our successful Garbagia Project initiative. Gabargia Universe, like Garbagia Island before, uses re-purposing and recycling as pedagogy and practice to consider pressing issues: climate change, the migrant experience and Latinx urbanism. This version will offer three component workshops where participants can hone their skills and realize their final products in a performative exposition. These include sewing and costume making, sculptural and conceptual art, and performance production.

Throughout his 2017 artistic residency, Juan Bautista-Climent together with the Latino community of Lower East Side considers Pan-Americanism and the Constructivist Aesthetic, as proposed by the Uruguayan modernist, Joaquín Torres García. The culmination of his work--including collaborations with Torres García's associates--will open September 7th, at the Loisaida Center at 6pm . It is his first solo show in New York City.

Juan Bautista is a Mexican artist from Xochimilco, Mexico City, a place with a millennial history that has influenced his work with a particular convergence of Christian and indigenous symbols.

Loisaida Inc., Acacia Network and the Institute for the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly invite you to experience the uplifting power of music with Broadway performers from Sing for Hope!

The Sing for Hope vision of art for all is informed by our belief that the arts have unique power to uplift, unite, and transform individuals and communities. Our outreach programs in under-resourced areas - from schools to community centers to healthcare facilities - demonstrate this every day.

Each Sing for Hope program is defined by the volunteer service of artists, the needs of the community, and our belief in the transformative power of the arts.
