Stewardship Thoughts from Cameron Nixon
Why do we give each year to support the Church? The easy answer is that is what you’re supposed to do, right? The Church can’t fund all her operating expenses and internal and external missions without the support of the congregation and so an annual stewardship campaign and our subsequent financial support is just what has to occur. I am guilty of finding it too easy to slip into that line of thinking and only upon deeper reflection do I realize that I can just as easily miss the gratification that comes from being able to give to support things that are greater than me. The adage (and Bible verse) is correct: it truly is “more blessed to give than to receive”.

I try to re-direct my thinking away from the transactional to a more holistic approach when Tricia and I give every year. I don’t always succeed. I have to remind myself that our beloved Saint Paul’s has been and must continue to be a presence in the spiritual lives of our fellow congregants and in the Augusta community. The Church’s history and the unlimited potential is what makes our gifts relevant. After much thought, we increased our pledge last year in response to the challenges of the pandemic and found it deepened our connection with both the physical components of our Church building and also with the intangibles that make our Church our home and a house of God.

I hope your discernment regarding your financial support to the Church has evolved or can evolve in a similar manner and this year we are able to meet the opportunities that are laid out in front of Saint Paul’s.

Sunday Forum - Christian Action & Inaction Fr. Eric
9:30 - 10:30 AM
The Berlin Room
We are used to asking “what should we do?” in the context of our faith. We may be less used to asking “what do we do when there’s nothing we can do?” In the 1930’s, two hugely influential brothers, both theologians and ethicists, had a public argument about whether there could be great social evils to which the faithful Christian response was inaction. On Sunday at 9:30, we’ll use this fight between the Niebuhr brothers to lead us into a conversation about faithful Christian action and inaction in our times and our lives. Is the answer to “What Would Jesus Do?” ever “not much”? How should we respond, as individuals or a community, when all our options look pretty bad? Obviously, all this will be answered comprehensively in our one-hour session.
Godly Play - grades PK - 1
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
ALL children inherently know God, but it is up to us to give them the language of the Christian faith so they can grow to make meaning of our faith in their own lives. Godly Play is a profound method rooted in Montessori principles that forms child spirituality by attending to their natural gifts for wonder and discovery. Children are greeted at the door of the Godly Play room by the "door person." It is VERY important for parents to respect the boundary of the door threshold by not entering the children's sacred space--their Godly Play room. We cannot wait to welcome your children each Sunday!

For more information, contact Kim Butler or Ivey Coleman.
SPARK - grades 2- 5 (two classes)
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
Our older children will again immerse themselves in SPARK, where they will work with the same themes and Scripture that we all encounter in common worship. Every lesson follows a four-part pattern: Gather, Open the Bible, Activate Faith, and Send. Week after week, the children and their leaders gather together, explore the Scriptures, enjoy one another's company, pray, and discover God's presence in their midst.

For more information, contact Coleman Graham or Laurie Montgomery.
Colaborate: Bible Study - grades 6-8
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
The Colaborate Curriculum is designed to help youth take an honest look at the holy mystery and the complexity of Scripture to move them onto a path of growth and discovery. Using infographics, this program will include studies of both New Testament and Old Testament lessons to start a conversation about God and what it means to follow Jesus.

For more information, contact Laurie Montgomery.
Animate: grades 9-12
9:30 AM -10:30 AM
In the Children's Ministry Center
For our older youth, we will begin the year with the Animate Curriculum which begins each gathering with a video featuring a leading voice from the Christian faith to open a group reflection. Topics include: God: Faith Is a Quest, Cross: Where God Is, Jesus: The Revolution of Love and others to begin to ask the questions about faith for their journey.

For more information, contact Laurie Montgomery.
