Primary Care Accelerated Track
This innovative three-year program prepares students for early entry into a traditional primary care residency. It has three tracks: Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics. After completing residency, three years of continuous, full-time, medical practice in a medically underserved rural area of Georgia is required.

To qualify, you must be a Year I student, be in good academic standing, and have a strong desire to practice primary care in a rural area.
Nathan Deal Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students committed to practicing medicine in rural and medically underserved areas of Georgia. After completing residency, four years of continuous, full-time, medical practice in a medically underserved rural area of Georgia is required and the practice must accept Medicaid patients.

To qualify, you must be a Georgia resident with strong ties to rural Georgia and enrolled in MUSM's four-year MD program.
January 2022 COVID Protocols
Due to changes announced by the CDC and the surge of the COVID-19 Omicron, the protocols for the School of Medicine have been updated as follows.

Symptomatic
  • Symptomatic students, faculty, and staff should be tested for COVID regardless of vaccination status.
  • Please alert Dr. House (COVID Liaison) and your supervisor or academic affairs that you are symptomatic and are being tested.
  • Call the Campus Health 24/7 COVID hotline at 478-301-SICK (7425) and arrange testing. You should remain isolated until the results are returned.

Positive Test
  • Per recent changes to the CDC guidelines, we are observing a 5-day isolation period for those who test positive.
  • Please return after 5 days from first symptoms if you are not feverish and your symptoms are improving.
  • Masks are mandatory for an additional five days and should be a high-quality mask (a KN95) level mask. No gaiters or cloth masks.
  • Submit test results to mytestreport@mercer.edu

Asymptomatic Exposure
  • If you have been exposed to COVID, please wear a mask, monitor symptoms, and return to work or class.
  • Monitor for symptoms and get tested if you become symptomatic.

Additional Tips
  • Avoid exposure by wearing a mask and washing hands.
  • Avoid serious illness by being vaccinated and getting a booster vaccine when able.
  • Masks are required for everyone in the building and in small groups and should be a high-quality mask (surgical or KN95).
  • Eating in close proximity to others is discouraged while we are facing the Omicron variant due to its highly infectious characteristics.
