Dear Friends,

This Sunday is called Palm Sunday. Palms represent victory in the ancient world. Athletes received them for winning competitions. But did you realize that palm trees have historically been important to both Jews and Christians? For example, in Leviticus 23:40-43, God tells the Israelites to gather palm fronds and other leafy branches to use in their celebration and remembrance of their deliverance from Egypt — they are even instructed to build makeshift shelters outside and live in them for the seven days of the festival. Most importantly, the palm reminds us that WE are on the winning side. Jesus rode into Jerusalem amid the waving palm branches, and he arose victorious over the grave by the end of the week.

We have a lot of great things going on at FBC Griffin during Holy Week (next week)! This issue features those activities and more. Don't forget to share with us how we can be praying for you this week.
We all need a little break sometimes. Since it is spring break week for many kids, First Baptist is hitting pause on morning prayer and Wednesday night activities this week. We will be back to normal as of Sunday, just in time to start Holy Week!
Invite your kid-friends to come out for our Easter egg hunt next Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (By the way: we're serving BBQ pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, and dessert for our regular Wednesday night meal that night, so RSVP and come out early to share a meal with your friends, too!) We will get started in Morgan Hall and go hunting from there.
We invite you to join us on Thursday, April 14th, at 6:00 p.m. in Morgan Hall for a very special service during which we will narrate, sing, and read from Scripture as we contemplate the colors of the cross. Our ministerial staff will lead us in acoustic worship with hymns interspersed with old favorite choruses. We will participate in the Lord's Supper as we reflect on Christ's sacrifice for us.
We invite you to Bramblett Chapel for a memorable and meaningful self-guided worship experience called It Is Finished. The Seven Last Words of Christ on Good Friday, April 15. The Chapel will be open between 10:000 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Missions Update
These lovely folks and others gathered in the Community Garden on March 30th for a spring clean up to prepare for planting in a few weeks. Thank you to all who came out to help! Our Community Garden produces abundantly throughout the summer months and makes it possible for FBC to provide the Abundant Life Soup Kitchen and Five Loaves and Two Fish Food Pantry with fresh produce to share with those in need around the Griffin community. If you would like to know more about the Community Garden, or if you would like to get involved, EMAIL Patrick Shepherd for more information.
These women have successfully completed the Spring class of LifeSong Ministries. Through a strategy that combines work readiness training with Biblical principles, and volunteer mentoring, LifeSong teaches key workplace essentials to finding and keeping a job with training topics like job search techniques, interviewing skills, building a resume, vocational planning, budgeting, computer skills, community resources, and more. We are so grateful for the partnership we share with First Baptist Church.

Holy Week: Seeing an Old Story in New Ways
by Steven Norris
Sunday begins Holy Week — the most sacred week of the year for Christians. This week marks the final week in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, from his entrance into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey through the events of his death and resurrection. It is a familiar story that Christians have heard time and time again.....
