Horizon West Middle School
HWMS Community Member,

We are now in the 2nd quarter of the school year and we are so happy to see how well our Hornets are doing. Report Cards will go home on October 19th. Now is the perfect time to speak with your child about their grades and set goals for the new quarter.

We are asking that ALL students have their School ID on them at all times. Replacement IDs are $5.00, and can be purchased in the media center. If your student has not received their ID, please have them report to the media center from 9-930am.

Student picture packets were distributed through your child’s ELA class. If you’ve already ordered pictures, your pictures will be in the packet. If you haven’t, you’ll have a flyer with a website and a specific code to see your child’s picture. You can use that information to order pictures online. We will be having a picture retake day on November 11th for those students who were absent on picture day.

October 25th - 28th is Red Ribbon Week and each day we have special events planned for our students to participate in. Red Ribbon Week brings attention to living a healthy lifestyle and staying drug free.

We wish all our Hornets a wonderful weekend, and thank you for reading about all the great events and activities happening at Horizon West!

First reading challenge of the school year!
Our first reading challenge, Fall into a Good Book, is running the month of October! Students can compete by logging their reading minutes in Beanstack from their Launch page for a chance to be featured on the morning announcements talking about their favorite book! Additionally, the top 10 students will be invited to join our reading celebration in November based on minutes read and challenge participation! We can’t wait to see how many minutes our amazing students can read during October.

For details on how to log minutes check out the module called Beanstack for Students on the Student Body Canvas page. Students can also stop by the media center in the morning or during lunch for more information or to check out books.
